Ruble on the Rise
Timothy Birdnow
So, Russia is getting creamed, eh?
This suggests otherwise.
The Russian ruble closed on Wednesday at its strongest this
month against the dollar both in Moscow and offshore exchanges after
President Vladimir Putin said Russia would start selling its gas to
"unfriendly" countries in roubles
Looks like Putin is still in control of things.

I haven't worked for a couple of years now but when I did we always had people from Illinois calling us; they were abandoning the state in droves. Why live there when St. Louis was just across the river? Missouri has lower taxes, a far less intrusive government, and better job opportunities in many ways. Gas is cheaper. Why anyone would stay in Illinois is beyond me.

No Obvious Accelleration in Sea Level Rise
John Lees
The claimed acceleration in global sea levels between the early 1900's and today, is NOT apparent when we look at the individual tide gauge records, from which this analysis is created.
So, can anybody explain how it is possible that the averaging of a selection of dozens of linear trends has resulted in a trend with clear acceleration?
If the global rate is accelerating as is shown above, then why is this acceleration not happening at each of the locations where the height of the sea surface is measured?
You can see just how astonishingly linear the individual gauge records are by eye-balling a selection of the long-term records, plotted here. (Click on the thumbnails to bring them up full screen.)

This is just one of the reasons I no longer watch "sports."
Posted by: Dana Mathewson at March 25, 2022 10:16 PM (551jX)

I was never a huge sports fan but I liked a few. Football, for example. And I've always been a huge boxing fan (which I pretty much stopped watching when it went to pay per view.) But it's become so political, and on top of that so over-regulated by the officials, that it's not worth watching to me.
Now you can do hardly anything without the officials blowing the whistle. And they blow it in ways that fundamentally affect the game. Sometimes the exact same "foul" will be called differently. It's arbitrary.
I guess I'm paranoid, but sports was and has been used as a tool by the Left to promote societal change, and I sometimes suspect the way penalties are tossed about like confetti is a way of teaching us to obey and accept whatever the "authorities" tell us. And if they pick winners and losers, who are WE to complain?
I suspect most sports are used as a model of societal obedience. They always were in the past. They started as war training, of course.

Dear old sexual grooming days

Gas Gimmicks
Gregory Wrightstone
The CO2 Coalition statement concerning Gavin Newsome proposing $800 subsidies for high gasoline pricing.:
Measures like stimulus checks and suspension of gas taxes are gimmicks
that only increase demand for fuel and add upward pressure to prices.
They do nothing to address the underlying problem of too little supply.
The solution to that is increased production of domestic energy.
Proponents of fake solutions are more concerned about their own
political fortunes threatened by their adherence to a global warming
ideology squandering the prosperity of a great country and the freedoms
of people who deserve better.
Gregory Wrightstone, executive director
California Car Owners Could Get Up to $800 Rebate to Help Offset Gasoline Prices
Tim adds:
This means the state can continue to drive prices upward but make it appear they are helping out the little guy. And by giving a "rebate" they trick people into thinking they are getting something for nothing when in fact they are paying out far more than some paltry eight hundred bucks.
It's just another case of "how do we fool 'em today".

The Fish Fry, an Institution of Rooted America
Dana Mathewson
From the wonderful Salena Zito, on Townhall. Of special interest for those of you who observe Lent. Note: This reactivates my "Potables and Provender" section of the Aviary, after a long hiatus.
PITTSBURGH -- Evelyn Wade was standing in a line with her friends, Sandra Owen and Janet Mundy. The queue not only filled the long hallway of the Allegheny Elks Club lobby but went out the door and down the steps. It then stretched around the city block of Cedar Avenue. Wade is a regular at the neighborhood fraternal club's weekly Lenten Friday fish fry. Owen and Mundy are not.
"Evelyn said the fish sandwiches are amazing, but she also said the atmosphere was great, too," Owen said. "Even though I am not even at a table yet, I can see what she means. You get a real sense of belonging and community just standing here meeting people."
For the next three hours, the social hall of the city neighborhood's Elks filled up with hundreds of people grabbing whatever chair they could find on long, cafeteria-style tables sitting side by side, most of the time with people they had never met. They discussed the neighborhood, found out they knew someone who knew someone who knew them, as well as the tastiness of the freshly made battered cod, homemade stick-to-your-ribs macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and french fries they devoured.
Friday fish fries are an American tradition rooted in the Catholic practice of abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent, a practice brought here during the great European migration of the early 20th century, with many of those immigrants settling in Rust Belt Appalachia and the Midwest.
First seen as an inexpensive way for the devout to gather and enjoy meals in church halls with people from their parish, it soon became a way for those same parishes to raise money for the funding of schools and churches because of the relatively low cost to make a dinner out of fish.
They are almost all exclusively run by a team of dedicated volunteers young and old who usually start their preparations for the meals on Tuesdays. They start by purchasing the breading, macaroni, cheese, eggs, fresh cabbage and milk for the sides. Most parishes and organizations buy the fish fresh at the market on Friday mornings.
The Lenten fish fry has since expanded across the nation, migrating in the same patterns as the children and grandchildren of the families who originated them. Each region showcases its cultural flair with dishes at the events -- in the Midwest, it is cod and walleye, in the South, it is catfish, and on the Atlantic coastline, it is lobster and crab.
The side dishes are almost as important: macaroni and cheese, pierogies, french fries, coleslaw and hush puppies are the most popular.

Mmmm....haven't been to any fish fries this year thus far. I may have to go to our parish today for a little cod.
One quibble though; she says it stems from the Catholic practice of abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent, which is true, but it started when Catholics had to abstain from meat on every Friday, not just during Lent.
I'm glad they changed that. I am always at a loss to find things to eat on Fridays.
If you eat fish for lunch then you don't want it again for supper. I eat a lot of fettucini or other meatless pasta (like tuto mari).

When I went to work in the office at a steel plant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin I was invited to the department fish fry one Friday night. The hostess was describing the various platters, one for pike, one for walleye, one for bass, etc. I asked if there was one for catfish, and drew gasps of horror.
"You eat catfish? Ewww.†The guys who did the fishing caught catfish, but threw them back.
"Trash fish.â€
The next time much was made of there being a platter of catfish
"for Bill.†There was more than I could eat, so I made a point of offering to let other people try it out. Surprise abounded.
The next time after that there were several platters of catfish, and by the time dinner was over they were all empty.
After that there were more platters of catfish than there were of any other kind of fish. Pretty much everyone was clamoring for catfish.
I went back to work as a machine operator in the plant, but I’m pretty sure the eating of catfish continued

As an Episcopalian, I grew up eating fish on Friday. A friend once asked me why we did that, commenting as you did Dana that fish was pretty tasty, and I replied that I was taught that the observation was not intended as sacrifice but rather as a simple practice of remembering. Nothing more than a remembrance that Christ was crucified on Friday. He replied that I was the first person who had ever given him an answer that made sense.
Posted by: Bill H at March 25, 2022 11:08 PM (/sW5m)
5
Well Bill, that was an interesting story.
I know any number of people who love catfish (including my wife) but I detest the stuff. I just never liked the taste at all. But to each his own, I sez.
Yeah Dana; Bill's explanation is pretty good. It's not really a sacrifice but a remembrance. Jesus hung out with a bunch of fishermen and ate fish a lot.
Wonder what kind of fish they ate? Bet it twern't Atlantic Cod...
I went to the local parish fish fry yesterday evening and got some for Cathy and me. It was pretty limited; all they had was cod and shrimp. I had the fried and Cat had the baked. Mac and cheese, hushpuppies, and slaw rounded it out pretty nicely. Had we dined in I would have had a beer or two to go with it.
Speaking of such things a local microbrewery named Schlafleys (the owner was the nephew of Phyllis) has the best fish and chips in town. Two massive beer battered fried cod and an enormous helping of fries. Mmmmm. I love to wash that down with their iconic Oatmeal Stout.

Here’s Why Russian Forces Can’t Take the Ukrainian Capital of Kyiv
Dana Mathewson
This adds to a post I made a few days ago.
Matt Vespa writes on Townhall.com:
When the Conservative Political Action Committee kicked off in late February, so did Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It seemed by the time the conference ended; Russian troops would be in firm command of the country. The Ukrainian capital of Kyiv was projected to fall within days of the invasion. Retired Gen. Jack Keane, a regular on Fox News, did say that the Ukrainians will mount a solid defense, but they will eventually be overrun by Russian troops. Not the case. We underestimated the Ukrainians' ability to stand their ground. We overestimated the Russian military’s supposed prowess. What happened? It seems that things have atrophied.
Russian armored tactics used to be excellent. Russian tanks are not usually blown to bits in the numbers like we’re seeing in Ukraine. To add more humiliation to Moscow’s supposed military might, armored columns have run out of gas. Everything is stalled except in the city of Mariupol which is besieged and engulfed in classic urban house-to-house fighting right now. Despite no food, water, or electricity, the Ukrainian defenders are not surrendering. Elsewhere, Russian forces are truly stuck in the mud.
Will the capital fall? As of now, no—the Russians don’t have the men or materials to capture the capital. Vladimir Putin is reportedly pressuring Belarus’ Alexander Lukashenko, but he is reluctant to deploy forces into the country. The first phase of this war is over, and Russia failed.
There's more here:

I'll admit I am surprised the Russians didn't secure the country by now, but then, when you think about it, they weren't invading a much smaller country (like Georgia)but a nation of sizable population. Ukraine has a population of 43,476,153 making it a little under a third of the population of Russia (at 145,830,647). Ukraine is comfortably larger than the population of Canada at 38,311,500.
The Ukraine is also pretty big from a European perspective, being slightly larger than France.
Western Ukraine had been part of the Hapsburg Empire and so is far more Westernized than the other former Soviet Republics.
And it has many resources that most other countries do not. Food is plentiful, for instance, so starving them out is difficult.
AND they have had considerable technical and military support from the West.
So I guess Putin underestimated them. So did I.
The longer this drags out the harder it will be for Russia to continue; it's costing them huge amounts of money.
But, if Putin is facing a disastrous pullout he will have no choice but to take an act of desperation.
I will say this, no matter if Putin remains in power or not, the Russians will not make the mistake of overestimating their own forces again. They will work dilligently to improve their military, I see no way around a new cold war.
And they will no doubt try to assert their power again somewhere else. They hold grudges.

Tim, I think this whole thing is Putin over-estimating his "stuff." It appears that the Russian Army operates differently from others, and it has done them no favors.

You know Dana, thinking about it, I suspect Putin probably hollowed out the Russian Army of any decent leadership (much as the Democrats have done with our military). The Soviets could have a strong army because they were always ruthless, and "disappeared" anyone who might present a problem. But Putin came into this as a despot-in-the-making and he had to get rid of anyone who might present a challenge to his personal power. As far as I know he didn't use the old Soviet way of sending them to gulags or shooting them, but rather used attrition to retire the more politically unreliable ones. The result would be yes men telling him what he wanted to hear.
Hitler, a johnnie come lately tyrant, had much the same problem. He fired any general in the Wehrmacht who didn't approve of HIS plans and the result was eventually the Allies out-generaled the Germans.
But with Putin it's worse because he has real fears of a coup against him. The Wehrmacht never would have done that, what with the Prussian traditions.

Media Hypicrisy on Child Sex Abuse
Timothy Birdnow
Judge Jackson has a pattern of letting child
porn offenders off the hook for their appalling crimes, both as a judge
and as a policymaker. She’s been advocating for it since law school.
This goes beyond "soft on crime.†I’m concerned that this a record that
endangers our children
— Josh Hawley (@HawleyMO) March 16, 2022
A quick thought; the media is now covering for Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson as she is being asked about her rulings on pedophilia. Brown is accused of being
soft on the heinous exploitation of children via kiddy porn distribution.
In U.S. v. Cooper, for example in Judge Jackson sentenced Ryan Cooper to the
lowest sentence allowed, 60 months, for his conviction of distribution
of child pornography. There are numerous other cases.
Yet now the media is circling the wagons in her defense. See
this and
this for two prime examples.
Strange how touching the media's concern for protecting a judicial nominee over this issue is now.
They never extended the same courtesy to Catholic priests accused of pedophilia.
They repeatedly eviscerated judges who granted leniency to Catholic priests accused of sex abuse. See
this site for a few examples.
Amazing their hypocrisy.
The reality is
pedophilia is less rampant in Catholic schools than in public schools.
See
here.
But the media led us to believe every priest was a chester.
But at the same time they ignored molestation in Hollywood. And they ignore some rather interesting behaviors by President Joe Biden, including sniffing of little girls hair.
They were also quiet about the antics of Bill Clinton, who often flew on the Lolita Express to Jeffrey Epstein's Slave Island.
And now they defend his SCOTUS pick, who shows herself soft on kiddy porn and molestation. Strange how they hold such a double standard.

First I need to point out that your a racist for questioning Judge "It" Jackson. Since it cant define what a woman is I believe It will describe it nicely. The large testicles it must have to be unable to describe what it is biologically and yet promote itself as being a black woman. Another double standard. And they want it on the SC! My cat knows what sex she is and proves it by me being wrapped around her paw.

What seems to be missing from the Jackson arguments is something I read a few weeks back, which is that as a judge on the D.C. Court of Appeals, she has a record of something like 40+ % of her decisions being reversed. I don't think that's something we want for someone on SCOTUS.
I would really like to see the G.O.P. come down hard on her about that, and about her evasive answers. And although it might not be in perfectly good taste, I wouldn't mind if she were questioned on whether she's been nominated to fill a quota. Which she has, of course.
Posted by: Dana Mathewson at March 24, 2022 10:48 PM (551jX)

Yeah Mike; Zhe or Xi or whatever they call themselves cannot define male and female. May as well say you can't define anything else.
What happens if a rape case is before the Court? How do you rape something that is not definable from a sexual standpoint?
And if we extend that logic to other things, how can we define anything at all? All law is meaningless. If you don't BELIEVE you committed a crime, does that mean you did not? That is the upshot of her philosophy.
Posted by: Timothy Birdnow at March 25, 2022 09:22 AM (Dzyvy)

That is what is so maddening about this pick Dana; she clearly is an affirmative action choice (in violation of Federal law) and a miserably poor judge to boot. The public needs to know that, even if the GOP cannot stop her confirmation.
I was wondering if quorum rules could be used to stop the vote. The Senate requires 51 Senators be present. BUT there is no roll call to determine if that is the case; someone from the minority would have to be present to demand a roll call, thus making a quorum in this case (I assume the V.P. is not considered in the quorum.) So a walkout by the GOP would not stop her.
Maybe the Republicans should think about finding ways to prevent Democratic Senators from making the vote? Steal all of Patrick Leahy's Depends maybe?

And he'll be fresh meat. Do not make the mistake of taking that lightly. The public will be given a whole new set of smears and they will work with many just because they are new. If Trump runs they will have to try the exhausted, tired old smears which didn't work in the past.
I prefer to make them fight a battle they lost rather than a new one.
Also, Trump is by all rights the President, and he should be President again. I hate to let the RINO wing win in their attempt to get Trump out.
I soooo want to ram Trump down their throats - and down the Democrats and the media's gullets too!

The Stench of Bolshevism
Timothy Birdnow
A critic of the Rochester, Michigan school district (Detroit suburb) Covid policies was fired from her job after the school district called her employer. She had been in several Facebook groups opposing Covid lockdowns and masking.
She
just won $190,000 in court.
But the allegations in Rochester were extraordinary: Elena Dinverno
accused the district of making calls that caused her to be fired from
her marketing job.
Dinverno participated in Facebook groups that
were in favor of reopening Rochester schools for in-person instruction
in 2020. She said she frequently questioned the school board’s
decisions.
Rochester acknowledged that a deputy superintendent,
Debra Fragomeni, called Dinverno's employer, though attorneys denied
any wrongdoing.
Nonetheless, the district agreed to pay $116,209 to Dinverno and $72,540 to her attorney to settle the lawsuit, records show.
Dinverno said her free-speech rights were violated when the district retaliated by calling her employer.
"They have zero business policing her speech,†attorney Deborah Gordon said in 2021 when the lawsuit was filed.
Bear in mind these were the ones who were caught and went to court. How many other school districts have pulled this kind of thing?
The stench of Bolshevism is thick in the air of America.

Russia Choking Oil and Gas Pipelines
Timothy Birdnow
Trade flows both ways. Putin knew that. It's why he promoted "green tech" in Europe in the first place by funding the radical environmental groups. He knew they would have to come to him for oil and gas. It's also why he launched this invasion in late winter, while Europe still needed the gas flowing.
Russia Chokes Major Oil Pipeline in Further Threat to Global Supplies

Powell Says U.S. Must Regulate Crypto
Mark McDougall
What's on my mind?
This...
"Fed Chair Powell Says Crypto Needs New Regulation Citing Risks to US Financial System"
Oh REALLY sunshine? The Fed has carefully guided the US and with flow-on effects, the WORLD into a massive 'print me the money' spiral into inflation and you think CRYPTO is a problem?
These scum think we are all stupid!
The RISK to the financial system is $Billionaires stripping money from the system and so-called financial controllers aiding and abetting the collapse of the world economy.
For those who don't know, the $Billionaires stripped well over $1 TRILLION from the world economy around the world while sinking the boot into medium to small businesses and putting many of them OUT of business.
Govts, yours and mine and almost every govt in the west, eagerly enforced the asset stripping PLUS stole more money to pay for experimental genetic 'treatments' while banning actual drugs that could have saved millions of people.
We have lost our economy, our production, our security, our rights and our freedoms and just to stick it up us even more, we now face food shortages and an escalating war that could easily see WW3 sweep across the globe.
And THIS cretin wants to blame crypto currencies!
Tim adds:
And no mention of his own part in this. If it weren't for Powell and his cronies and his predecessors we would never have seen the rsie of crypto. It is only there because too many people are concerned about the value of the dollar (or lack thereof) which Mr. Powell helped make worthless.

AP, Biden Admin "Surprised" by Taliban Order to not Educate Girls
Timothy Birdnow
Will wonders never cease? Who'da thunk it?
AP and Biden administration are surprised that the Taliban broke its promises about Afghan girls' education
The Furnace
In a piece published Wednesday morning, the news agency (AP) reported
that the Taliban had announced that it would not be providing any
education opportunities for girls beyond the sixth grade.
The initialreport (which was subsequently edited without bothering to alert
readers that any edits had been made), headlined "Taliban nixes girls
higher education despite earlier pledges," called the declaration by
the terror group that now controls Afghanistan a "surprise decision"
from "the hardline leadership of Afghanistan’s new rulers."
This means that nothing has really changed for girls in
country since the Taliban took power in mid-August on the heels of the
United States' abrupt and much-maligned exit from the South Asian
nation — which falls in line with what most serious analysts expected
from the Taliban.
However, the AP went on to repeatedly note how "unexpected" the move was.
"The unexpected decision came late on Tuesday as
Afghanistan’s education ministry prepared for the new year opening of
school, which was expected to herald the return of girls to school,"
the AP said in its original report.
"Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers unexpectedly decided against
reopening schools Wednesday to girls above the sixth grade," the outlet
said in the lede of its edited version of the story.
Like the AP, which called the moved "so sudden," people inside the Biden administration were also caught off guard.
U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West tweetedhis "shock and deep disappointment" over the terror group's declaration
and ripped the Taliban for betraying its "public commitments" and
previous statements that "ALL" off its people have a right to an
education.
I am reminded of the words of Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back "he is as clumbsy as he is stupid".
Any fool knew what was coming. The Taliban had been in power before, after all.
These blind idiots are in charge of our foreign policy - and our domestic policy. Yikes!

This might be a good idea! Ideal voting process
Dana Mathewson
Finally: A Transparent Voting Process That Can't Be Corrupted, Hacked, or Cheated — Democrats Will Hate It
This is from one of my favorite writers on PJMedia: Stephen Green, a.k.a. The Vodkapundit.
The left loves absentee voting, so I say let’s give it to them. And let’s make it as easy as picking up a scratch-off lottery ticket from the local store. Hell, let them vote on their phones. What could go wrong?
Nothing. Welcome to Redo Voting, the world’s first and only transparent, unhackable, incorruptible, paper-based voting system. No wiggle room on chain of custody, no Zuckerbucks to buy influence, and no reason to stop counting votes at 10:30 p.m. when the Republican presidential candidate is pummelling whatshisface, you know, the thing.
Redo Voting is a hybrid of existing secure document technology used by state lotteries, combined with government-level encryption. The result is a voting system that is paper-based, but uses a web browser for data entry. A great example of this is your state’s lottery program. 45 states currently have a state-wide lottery, and because of the massive amounts of money that pass through that system the security is the best available this side of military encryption. If that were "hackable,†billions would be stolen on a regular basis; but it does not happen. We use the same technology and processes.
You may not yet have heard about the brilliance of Redo Voting, but it’s the latest rage in Washington, D.C. Everyone is talking about it.
You’ve heard a lot about "chain of custody†problems in the 2020 election. With Redo Voting, chain of custody is no longer an issue. It is 100% guaranteed from the printer right through exhaustion of post-election excuses. You cast your vote on a secure .gov domain website, and no one but you touches your ballot.
It can be used to vote in person or from anywhere on the planet. Here is how that aspect works:
You get a scratch-off "ballot†(again, based on the same technology as a lottery scratch-off ticket) from any retail store, scratch it, and scan the QR code underneath with your phone (you can also enter the info into your home computer browser).
- Your browser is then directed to a state.gov website.
- Eligible registered voters cast their votes.
- The vote is private, secure, and sent directly to a secure database. It cannot be altered or deleted.
When voting is closed, the secretary of State applies a decryption key to the repository and tallies the votes in seconds. She/he can give the key to anyone who wants to see the results (including voters). The tallies can’t be altered.
The public instantly knows how many votes each candidate received.
I thought it sounded too good to be true, so I spoke with Redo Voting co-founder and president John Rogers and asked him about security. Isn’t everything hackable, including the Redo Voting system?
"Technically, yes,†Rogers told me, "but it would take all the computing power of a modern nation-state and roughly five billion years to do it.â€
Non-citizens aren’t registered and thus can’t vote. They won’t be recognized in the system. No matter how many scratch-off ballots you grab, you can only vote once. The system also employs fraud-detection measures.
"An absentee ballot may be cast securely in real-time from anywhere on earth, but only by the voter who requested it,†claims the website. "If an astronaut takes their scratch-off ballot with them, they can vote securely and in real-time from space.â€
Redo Voting is brilliant for many reasons. No one can vote unless they are a legally registered voter, no one can vote more than once, and Zuckerberg’s money can’t influence the election in any way. There is nothing 2,000 mules can do to affect the outcome of the election. Unless someone has a few billion years to spare, they can’t hack the system and change votes.
But wait, not everyone has a phone, right? The voting system is rigged and racist. What about poor people who don’t have cell phones?
I was skeptical until I really got into the article. This could be an idea whose time has come. Let's say one or two Red states try it and it works. To quote the title of a Steve Allen song, "This could be the start of something big."

There are so many holes in that
"system" that I'm not even going to bother to enumerate them. Just to name the two most obvious: the issue of voter registration (dead people, non-citizens, people moved to another district, ficticious people, etc.), and
"just like the lottery." How many lottery tickets can one person buy and scratch off? Hundreds.
Posted by: Bill H at March 23, 2022 11:18 PM (/sW5m)
2
Granted, Bill, that it doesn't solve the overall voter registration issue -- that's for individual states to deal with -- but it's not intended to. As far as the number of scratch-off tickets, each one has an individual code and the system makes sure you can use only one. Once you've voted, that's it.

This is a pretty fun game, but requires players to have fast hand skills to choose the right arrow keys and at the right time they touch the arrow icons available on the screen to be considered valid. . If you have ever played Audition, you will get used to the
Friday Night Funkin game very quickly.
Posted by: bigbear at March 24, 2022 02:24 AM (7fRtZ)

I tend to be with Bill on this one, but perhaps it could be made workable. Still, I see some big flaws in this system.
And there is no lock that cannot be picked. Remember the German Enigma machine?
Military codes are broken regularly, and not after 5,000 years or billions of dollars. That the owner of this company claims that makes my antennae go up (no, I don't really have antennae, just some pillow head this early morning.)
For that matter, do we really know the lottery is secure? It may not be hackable by amateurs, but one wonders if indeed a savvy operation has not hacked it in the past. It could be that they are wise enough not to steal the big Lotto prize but steal a bunch of hundred dollar winners. We don't know.
Here is at least one case of a lottery machine being hacked. https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2016/04/hacking_lottery.html
The Democrats (and the Republicans, for that matter) do not want a clean election. If they embrace this you know they already have a way to hack it.
Here is another example. https://awealthofcommonsense.com/2018/03/lessons-from-the-couple-who-hacked-the-lottery/
In fact, there are multiple examples of the lottery being hacked. I suspect it happens far more than we know.
Which means we MUST have a way of verifying our vote. How do we know we will?
Also, the Constitution makes voting a state matter. There is no reason for blue states to adopt such a system if it works. If it is being adopted in D.C. then you know it is already hacked.

Defense expert spots serious issue with Russia trucks, indicates entire war is about to change
Dana Mathewson
Things are not going Putin's way in Ukraine, and many of the reasons are self-inflicted.
Over the course of his long career with the Department of Defense, Trent Telenko spent 10 years as an Army vehicle auditor.
Based in Sealy, Texas, he received and inspected the steady stream of military vehicles damaged in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. This experience has given Telenko an eye for details that others could easily miss as well as a unique perspective on Russia's progress in Ukraine.
In early March, Telenko saw on social media a photograph of a Russian Pantsir-S1 missile system located near the Ukrainian city of Kherson. His eyes went immediately to the system's tires. Rather than using high-quality, more expensive tires that could support the tremendous weight of the Pantsir-S1, the Russian army had opted for cheaper, low-quality, Chinese-made tires. He also noticed they were in terrible shape because they had not been properly maintained.
In a widely read Twitter thread, Telenko identified the problems caused by the Russian army's failure to properly maintain not only this specific Pantsir, but neglect of the entire fleet.
Many photos are in this article, so I can't post them. But this is a very thoughtful and interesting article, and talks about the terrible state of repair of much of the Russian equipment.

Heres my issue with this report is its all maybes and ifs. The other issue is the where and when of the videos. No time stamps. Like much of the footage they are showing us its from another time and place.
If the Russians are bombarding the holey crap out of Ukraine why the low civilian casualty rates? If the Russian army is so decrypted how did they get to the Ukraine border?

One other point about painting Putin as an inadequate leader. China is watching this intently and would China substitute Taiwan for a large chunk of Russian natural resources. In a heart beat, if they knew they could get away with it and be an international hero. After all China has the best equipped and trained army with all the latest technologies thanks to us.

Well, Mike, naturally there's nothing concrete in this report -- the analyst is working from what he sees on the news. That doesn't mean he's necessarily wrong. Yes, it would be nice to have time and date stamps, but that's not always possible.
This is similar to a psychologist "analyzing" Joe Biden's current mental state from Joe's public televised appearances: it's not being done in person, but that doesn't totally invalidate the conclusions.
Posted by: Dana Mathewson at March 23, 2022 11:24 PM (FSK6u)

I tend to agree with Mike here Dana, but your point is valid.
I trust absolutely nothing about any of the reporting/photos we are seeing here. I often think they are putting out deep fakes. Easy to do with current technology. And who are the analysts? Where do they stand on all this?

"As far as the number of scratch-off tickets, each one has an individual code and the system makes sure you can use only one.â€
And how does it do that? The same way that current voting system make sure that each voter votes only once?
But the big question remains, how does anyone make sure that it is a valid voter obtaining that ticket, and how does the "system†make sure that the person turning the ticket in is a valid voter?
This
"wonderful new system†does
absolutely nothing other than replace the ballot with a scratch off ticket.

World War Looming
Chester McAteer
They are going to take us into war with Russia if they are
allowed to. The propaganda has been so intense over the last few weeks
that they’ve been able to change public opinion which shortly ago said
that the Ukraine was none of our business too now over 70% think that
the US and NATO needs to place a No-Fly Zone over Ukraine. That would
effectively be a Declaration of War against Russia, which would draw in
China, probably India and several other countries, including several
African and South American countries on the side of Russia. WW3!
Tim replies:
I agree Chet; the war drumbeat is pretty much constant now, and
it will drive us into war or at least into decades of distrust and
bitterness. And war with a nuclear power of Russia's stature is insane!
Most people think the Russians only have a few nukes. They don't
realize they have more than do we, and newer ones too. This is the most
dangerous time we've faced since the Cuban Missile Crisis and maybe
even moreso. Back then we understood the stakes.
I am horrified by how easily led so many are, especially those on our side.
There are no good guys in this. Ukraine is a horrible place and so is
Russia. We should have taken pains to stop this whole crisis. But Biden
needs to hide his sins and so do the Interantionalists. We are
blundering into war. It looks very much like 1914.

They are giving Putin the same treatment they gave Trump. Every day there's talk about how he's losing and how he is out of control and insane etc. I rather doubt any of it.
This isn't an American President running for re-election.
Mike, I think Putin could use tactical nukes if we send troops in. That is the big issue here. And I rather doubt we would counter with our own nukes. I think we would fear doomsday too much, and there are those who would argue we had to endure it rather than kill millions of innocent people.
I agree; it's overblown at this point. Putin is sabre rattling, largely to make it clear he won't tolerate a NATO response.
Absolutely right Dana.
I had a mouse on a glue trap the other day and had to pick the trap up with my hand. The little love child scratched at me (and man his claws were sharp!) and would have bit me if he could. I whomped him with a shovel (HAH!)
He didn't break the skin but I took no chances; stuck my finger in an alcohol bottle.
The point is, he is not going to end in a spider hole like Saddam Hussein. He'll go down swinging.

Oh, and Mike, I have no doubt you are right; they want another Afghanistan in Ukraine. But it isn't anywhere near the same sort of situation. This war will end within a few weeks, probably, with major concessions offered to Russia. Otherwise it could wind up spreading well outside of the Ukrainian border.
I do not believe Russia has sent in their best troops or equipment either. I think we are being duped at their pathetic response.
This won't be a years-long guerilla war. The Ukrainians will be crushed or they will cut a deal. It's that simple.
Of course, Biden and company also want this to go to November so he can be a wartime President and hide his many failures and leftist excesses.
