A Wall for Ottawa

Timothy Birdnow

So, walls don't work to stop unwanted people from getting in, eh?

Then why are they building a wall in Ottawa to keep protesters out?

Democracy Dies in Canada

Dana Mathewson

We on this site have been presenting a number of posts about the debacle in our neighbor to the north. Here's one of the best articles I've read so far, from PJMedia's excellent Robert Spencer:

Trudeau Government to Make Some of Their New Authoritarian Measures Permanent

Nothing good can come of this!

How predictable was this? On Thursday, I wrote an article comparing Trudeau’s Emergencies Act to Adolf Hitler’s Enabling Act that established his dictatorship and pointed out that while Hitler’s Act was supposed to be temporary, when it came up for renewal, his opponents had all been outlawed, imprisoned, or killed, and there was no one left to raise a dissenting voice. Trudeau’s invocation of the Emergencies Act was supposed to be temporary as well, but on Friday, Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland announced the Trudeau regime’s intention to make some of their new authoritarian powers permanent. This, my friend, is how democracies die.

When the Emergencies Act was first invoked on Feb. 14, Freeland explained that the Freedom Convoy’s bank accounts would be frozen: "As part of invoking the Emergencies Act, we are announcing the following immediate actions: First: we are broadening the scope of Canada’s anti-money laundering and terrorist financing rules so that they cover crowdfunding platforms and the payment service providers they use. These changes cover all forms of transactions, including digital assets such as cryptocurrencies.”

In order to strangle the protests financially, Freeland declared: "As of today, all crowdfunding platforms, and the payment service providers they use, must register with FINTRAC [Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada] and they must report large and suspicious transactions to FINTRAC. This will help mitigate the risk that these platforms receive illicit funds; increase the quality and quantity of intelligence received by FINTRAC; and make more information available to support investigations by law enforcement into these illegal blockades. This is about following the money. This is about stopping the financing of these illegal blockades. We are today serving notice, if your truck is being used in these illegal blockades your corporate accounts will be frozen.”

Freeland said even on Feb. 14 that "the government will also bring forward legislation to provide these authorities to FINTRAC on a permanent basis.” On Friday, she doubled down on this, saying, with the arrogance, semi-coherence, and logorrhea that is common to so many Leftist schoolmarm authoritarians: "Uh, in terms of the financial instruments which our government is using right now to act against these illegal blockades and illegal occupation, uh, we reviewed very, very carefully the tools at the disposal of the federal government, uh, and we used all the tools that we had prior to invocation of the Emergencies Act, and we determined that we needed some additional tools. Now, some of those tools, uh, we will be putting forward, uh, measures to put those tools permanently in place. Uh, the authorities of FINTRAC, I believe, do need to be expanded to cover crowdsourcing platforms, uh, and, uh, payment platform — and their payment providers. Uh, so that’s, that is something that we need to do, and we will do, and that needs to be in place permanently.” What that means is that the Trudeau regime will seek to put its ability to seize dissidents’ bank accounts on a permanent basis. Yes, my friend, once again, that is how democracies die.

Freeland did throw a bone to those who still hope that all this will pass and that Canada will go back to being a free republic. She explained that some of the regime’s new authoritarian measures, even though they were working like a charm, would not be made permanent: "Uh, some of these other tools, uh, like, uh, the sharing of information between law enforcement and financial services, and the requirement of financial services to be reviewing their accounts proactively, and the immunity from prosecution that we have provided to them in doing this, these are extraordinary measures, measures that we absolutely believe are necessary in the current circumstances, that are having an impact, and let me also point out, having a peaceful impact. Uh, and the other aspect of the financial tools that I would point to as being really effective and important is, uh, being clear that insurance on trucks that participate in these illegal occupations and blockades will be suspended. So we didn’t have those tools. Uh, I don’t believe that those tools should be part of the toolbox of a government in ordinary times, but they are necessary in these extraordinary circumstances, and they are having a very clear impact.” How magnanimous! At least, that is, until "extraordinary circumstances,” that is, Trudeau’s opponents getting too influential, arise again.

NYC to NOT Impose Covid Rules

This from Mary Kay Barton

BREAKING: To avoid potential staffing issues, NYS will NO LONGER enforce the healthcare worker booster requirement that was set to go into effect on Monday, February 21st.

Tim adds:

The Democrats are running scared about the upcoming elections. Very scared. They need to reduce this for a time, at least until after the election. They won't get rid of this nonsense but will loosen things up to make the public happy.

Then another variant will arise and they'll try to reimpose this stuff.

That actually may be for the best; a revolution usually starts not with oppression but with a loosening which raises expectations. The Democrats are caught in a trap of their own making.

The Great Fraud

From Murray Stewart

The Greatest Scientific Fraud of all Time Part XXIX

"Today’s post now reports on a new article (February 8, 2022) published in the journal Atmosphere, written by some 17 co-authors led by Peter O’Neill, Ronan Connolly, Michael Connolly, and Willy Soon. The title is "Evaluation of the Homogenization Adjustments Applied to European Temperature Records in the Global Historical Climatology Network Dataset.” The main difference between this piece and Kirye’s 2021 work is that whereas Kirye only attempted to tackle temperature alterations at 6 weather stations, these guys have collected some ten plus years of both adjusted and unadjusted NCEI data from every station in Europe, close to 4000 stations in total. They then attempt to some degree to reverse-engineer the adjustments to figure out what NCEI is doing, and particularly whether NCEI is validly identifying station discontinuities , such as moves or instrumentation changes, that might give rise to valid adjustments. The bottom line is that the adjusters make no attempt to tie adjustments to any specific event that would give rise to legitimate homogenization, and that many of the alterations appear ridiculous and completely beyond justification. "

Dr. Roy Spencer adds:

The trouble with homogenization corrections is that if there is a slow spurious warming trend from urbanization effects, it looks like global warming and won't be removed.

Renewing the Panic

Bill H.

We are renewing, perhaps even increasing the panic level. And, to boot, we are building a case for more vaccines. Emphasis in the following is added by me.

CNN Frb 19, "The BA.2 virus -- a subvariant of the Omicron coronavirus variant -- isn't just spreading faster than its distant cousin, it may also cause more severe disease…”

They go on to say, "And like Omicron, it appears to largely escape the immunity created by vaccines. A booster shot restores protection, making illness after infection about 74% less likely.”

Deseret News Feb 18, "New lab experiments in Japan found that BA.2 has a number of features that can make it capable of causing severe COVID-19 symptoms on the same level as previous strains.”

They too add more, saying that, "The research — published before peer review on the bioRxiv server — found that BA.2 can resist COVID-19 vaccines and some treatments,”

Tin Soldiers and Trudeau's Coming

Timothy Birdnow

So Baby Doc Trudeau has sent in the Cossacks to trample peaceful protesters. Makes me think of another Canuck who hates the unmasked and sings like a constipated old woman.

I hope Neil Young will remember. He bemoaned it when it happened in the U.S. and now he's the guy promoting it in Canada.

Here is a suitably modified version of his song Ohio:

Tin soldiers and Trudeau's coming
We're finally on our own
This winter I hear the drumming
From mounties in Ottawa

Gotta get down to it
Mounties  are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago
What if you knew her
And found her trampled on the ground
How can you run when you know?

Tin soldiers and Trudeau's coming
We're finally on our own
This winter I hear the drumming
From mounties in Ottawa

No freedom in Canada
No freedom in Canada
No freedom in Canada
No freedom in Canada
No freedom in Canada

Covid Facts The Politicians, Health Authorities and Media Aren't Telling The Public

James Doogue

This is not a disease the average healthy child or adult needs to be concerned about yet we've been locked-down and forced to wear masks and be vaccinated en masse as if we all had a similar risk.

The ABS report confirmed that mainly elderly people (median age 83.7yrs) with an average of 2.7 serious pre-existing health conditions died with Covid-19. So why weren't all covid-19 pandemic programmes targeted to protect them, and the medically vulnerable, while letting everyone else live their lives and make their choices?

We will be paying off the government Covid spending bill for decades. We have nothing positive to show for the expenditure. Australia is a more divided society with tyrannical state governments using police state tactics to enforce unscientific vaccine and mask mandates.

From the ABS to the end of January 2022:

- Only about 1% of the 273,901 death registrations received by the ABS and certified by a doctor in Australia during the pandemic period are of people who have died with or from COVID-19.

- That's 2,639 deaths where people died with or from COVID-19 that occurred by 31 January 2022.

- The median age for those who died from COVID-19 was 83.7 years (81.2 years for males, 86.0 years for females).

- Most deaths due to COVID-19 have other conditions listed on the death certificate (91.4%).

- On average, deaths due to COVID-19 had 2.7 other diseases and conditions certified alongside the virus.

- Chronic cardiac conditions, dementia and diabetes were the top three pre-existing conditions listed in Covid-19 related deaths.

- Those with a country of birth in the Middle East had the highest age-standardise d death rate 10 times higher than Australian born; 29.3 deaths per 100,000 people versus 2.9 for Australian born.

Canada Turns Chinese

This from Cindy Schumacher:

Justin Trudeau's brownshirts are carrying put his orders, even though doing so violates Canada's Charter...
Cops in Ottawa are now arresting journalists who are filming the abuses by Trudeau's troops.
The so-called Prime Minister has also confiscated funds from truckers' bank accounts. In addition, they've broken windows of trucks, pulled drivers out to arrest them, and have stated they will euthanize trucker's PETS,

Australian Gulag - Life Goes On

James Doogue

Arrested at the site of anti-mandate protests. I spent 4 hours in the police Lock-Up. Will be summoned to appear in court at a future date for pleading.

I spent the first hour of my arrest absolutely stunned at what had happened and feeling so disappointed and ashamed for our police service.

Extended members of my family and friends are past and present police officers. In the past I've been a staunch supporter of police, acknowledging I wouldn't want to do their job. But having seen what's happened to me, it's easy to believe the worse of police accused of abuse of power.

Clearly there are a few police drunk on power and many who do not have the courage to speak out. I saw the shame and guilt in the eyes of some police officers. With some saying "we're only doing our job" as they 'processed' me.

"Just following orders" didn't cut it in Nuremberg, and it shouldn't be the refrain in Western Australian Police.

It's time serving police officers said no to their political masters who want to use them to make a point.

Since my arrest and incarceration on Wednesday night I've been running on fumes. I'm still recovering from the physical ordeal caused by being deprived of my meds, and the stress of the affair.

I'm considering my way forward. It will probably be weeks before I get a summons with a court date. That date could be months from now. The process is punishment and a deterrent regardless of guilt or innocence.

I guess I have plenty of time to consider if I am prepared to take up the fight or not. I'm seeking advice, communicating with others who were arrested, and reading up on case law. I will definitely write more about this soon as the issue of tyrannical governments using Covid as a cover, is not going away.

Sadly I was not well enough to join the competition shoot today. That would have been in 38°C forecast temp. That's in the shade. We would have sweltered on hot sand in the sun. As soon as I picked up the rifle this morning I knew I was in no shape to shoot. My son drove me home and I went back to bed. 😕

But life still goes on and I'm privileged to share it with our children and grandchildren - and the pooches in our life. Walks in the park, beach volleyball practice, swimming lessons and this afternoon we had a little one's, first birthday party. Real life continues. 🙂

The Founders were NOT Deists or Atheists

Warner Todd Huston

FACT: The American founders WERE NOT "mostly atheists and deists." Indeed, FEW can be described that way.

Did we have a few founders who were somewhat irreligious? Sure. Gouverneur Morris, Franklin, to some extent Madison and Jefferson were all not orthodox Christians. But the rest were all very religious. In fact, many were outright members of the clergy and were Christian theologians.

People love to point to Jefferson, for instance. But he put "the year of our Lord" in official documents, used federal funds to pay for Christian missionaries to minister to the Indians, signed onto the idea of turning the Capitol bldgs into churches (and attended church in those rooms), and wanted to use the story of the Israelites as part of our national seal. And in his famed letter about the separation of church and state, he cited the separation to STOP government for affecting religion, not to eliminate religion from government.

And if the founders all hated religion so much, why did all the states but one -- states that these same founders helped create -- originally have state-sponsored religions?

Was "taxation without representation"
a main reason for the separation from Gr. Britain as put forward by the Declaration of Independence? Sure, yes it was certainly a reason, but not THE reason. But it was only ONE of 26 other reasons and it was not in the top tier of issues. The biggest problem is that we had no representation on ANY issue in the British motherland. Religion issues were far more concerning to the colonists. And representation in general was the biggest qualm because they had no say in what they could or couldn't do and King George constantly vetoed their home rule decisions.

Lynette Wyrick adds:

Of the 56 who signed the Declaration of Independence, 29 actually held seminary degrees and more than half of the 56 held Bible School degrees according to David Barton.

Justin-ian "Justice" Turns Canada Red

Timothy Birdnow

Meanwhile in Canada the Trudeau junta is blackballing anyone associated with the protests, sending lists to financial institutions to tamper with their wealth. From Common Sense and Wonder:

Canadian banks will receive the names of people involved in "Freedom Convoy” protests that have descended on the nation’s capital, a first step in a promised financial crackdown on demonstrators being instituted by the far-left government of Justin Trudeau.

[...]

Bloomberg outlined exactly how the banks will cooperate with the government:

The emergency orders require virtually every participant in the Canadian financial system — banks, investment firms, credit unions, loan companies, securities dealers, fundraising platforms and payment and clearing services — to determine whether they possess or control property of a person who’s attending an illegal protest or providing supplies to demonstrators.

If they find such a person in their customer list, they must freeze their accounts and report it to the RCMP or Canada’s intelligence service, the regulations say. Any suspicious transactions must also be reported to the country’s anti-money-laundering agency, known as Fintrac.

Grid Locked

Timothy Birdnow

"Yesterdays announcement of the early closure of the Eraring power station means that, with the Liddell station scheduled to close next year, almost half of New South Wales coal generation capacity will have closed.

"Contrary to the propaganda, those closures are not because the coal stations have become uneconomic. They are due to competing energy supplies – wind and solar – having been subsidised by governments. This lowers the market price when those intermittent sources are running (while raising the overall price to consumers) and imposes stop-start costs on coal generators.

I'm quoting from my good friend Alan Moran, you can read the entire article here:
