But what will take its place?

Paul Driessen

President Reagan once quipped that a government program is the closest thing to eternal life on this planet. Greg Walcher says he couldn’t help reflecting on that when the Trump EPA released its replacement for the "Clean Power Plan,” the Obama Administration’s thinly-veiled attempt to kill the coal industry.

More than half the states sued, and the Supreme Court suspended the Obama plan as an unauthorized expansion of the agency’s authority under the Clean Air Act. But now the new Trump EPA has released a new plan, called the "Affordable Clean Energy” rule. It’s a huge improvement over the Obama War on Coal Plan.

But you have to wonder. Why can’t or won’t the Trump EPA just abolish the "endangerment finding” that’s behind all these anti-fossil fuel regulations … and replace it with – nothing at all

You won't see this on ABC tv again

Jack Kemp

Recently a friend of mine with a small boy asked my help in finding him some books with American historical significance for a second grade reader. I went to a used bookstore - and a major chain bookstore - and recalled my memories of those years. One of the books I found for the boy was Johnny Appleseed, about the itinerant apple tree planter and later itinerant preacher in the Nineteenth Century.

In recalling my early youth, I remembered a song that Dennis Day sang in the Disney tv program on ABC in the days when Walt himself was the host. Day sang, as Johnny Appleseed, a beautiful tune called "The Lord Is Good To Me."

Here is a link to this beautiful rendition on Youtube.

Here also are the first two verses of the lyrics which will self-explain why this isn't on secular tv nowadays.

https://www.disneyclips.com/lyrics/lyricsmelodytime3.html

The Lord is good to me
And so I thank the Lord
For giving me the things I need
The sun and rain and an apple seed
Yes, He's been good to me

I owe the Lord so much
For everything I see
I'm certain if it weren't for Him
There'd be no apples on this limb
He's been good to me

Why Would the Washington Post Hire Jamal Khashoggi?

Jack Kemp

Why Would the Washington Post Hire Someone Like Jamal Khashoggi?

The WashingtonPost is indignant that "hard-line Republicans and conservative commentators are mounting a whispering campaign against Jamal Khashoggi" supposedly in order to "protect President Trump from criticism of his handling of the dissident journalist's alleged murder by operatives of Saudi Arabia."
The Post hits these "hardliners" for highlighting Khashoggi's ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, and claims that "while Khashoggi was once sympathetic to Islamist movements, he moved toward a more liberal, secular point of view".

In reality, Khashoggi was the real hardliner, supporting jihad violence and Sharia right up to the time of his murder -- even in his recent Post columns. This raises questions about why the paper hired him as a columnist in the first place.

As recently as August 28, 2018, Khashoggi wrote in the Post:

Bible museum in Washington, D.C., says five of its Dead Sea Scrolls are fake

From the article:

The Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., says five of its Dead Sea Scroll fragments are fake, and will no longer be on public display.

What are the details?

CNN first broke the story on Monday, saying that a German institute made the determination after finding the fragments "show characteristics inconsistent with ancient origin and therefore will no longer be displayed at the museum"

Rick Moran with more Corey Booker sordid details

Jack Kemp

Here below are some quotes of additional details from Rick Moran's article at PJ Media. It is followed by a note about Moran, the author.

BEGIN QUOTE

Especially this senator. He then put his left hand on my groin, over my jeans, and began to rub. I seem to remember saying something like "What is happening?" It was a bit like having vertigo. He then used his other hand to grab my left hand with his right and pulled it over to touch him. At the same time, he disengaged from rubbing me and used his left hand to push me to my knees from my shoulder for what was clearly a move to have me perform oral sex on him. At that point, I pulled away quite violently and told him I had to go. I did not see him again before he left.

The victim says he contacted journalist Ronan Farrow, the "father of the #MeToo movement," who requested a phone conversation but never got back to him after the victim gave Farrow his number.
He also contacted a lawyer. Grabien reached out to the attorney who is mentioned in the letter:

Grabien News has reached out to the accuser's attorney, Harmeet Dhillon, to verify he has consulted with her, as he described in the letter.

"All I can say at this time is that the man is considering his next steps and has no further comment at this time," Dhillon told Grabien.

The victim gave his attorney the story along with some evidence. Here's what he says about that:
Once we established privileged communication, I told her my story; disclosing my real name and the details of my case. This included the precise date, location, some corroborating photographic evidence and two possible hearsay witnesses that I had told my story to subsequent to the incident. It was, at the very least, much more probative evidence than what was brought forth during the Kavanaugh debacle. Ms. Dhillon responded to me with respectful immediacy, offering candid advice and compassion tempered with pragmatism.

It should be noted that so far, major media outlets are silent on this story. It could very well be they haven't seen it. But the victim doesn't think he will get much support from the #MeToo movement anyway:

I"m not a woman. I do consider myself liberal but I no longer consider myself a Democrat. And the perpetrator of my story is a Democratic hero/2020 contender...hardly a tale that can be programmed, categorized or easily referenced by the modern American media apparatus. Especially one that caters to reductive, easy to follow narratives with a clear view of who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. So what recourse does that leave someone like me? Do I continue to engage with Ronan Farrow? I have no idea if he"s giving me the run around. Nor do I have any guarantee that his political ideology will not color his objectivity as a journalist. In light of the Ramirez story, it's clear that that is a distinct possibility.

This is from a liberal gay man, a Democrat.

END QUOTE

Personal Note:

I've worked with Rick Moran for years at American Thinker via online contact only. He is their Submissions Editor and one of the people I submitted pieces for publication. I see him as an old fashioned moderate with standards of decency. He always treated me fairly in our communications. Moran might have been - I speculate - a "Truman or John Kennedy Democrat" decades ago, but, as that famous ex-Democrat Ronald Reagan said, "You didn't leave the Party. The Party left you."

Dream big, to build a brighter future

Paul Driessen

The old-school advice to investors is often, put your savings in a mix of money market CDs, IRAs and 401Ks. As my colleague Mark Murphy observes in this article, those approaches are beneficial – but often they are little more than inflation-adjusted holding accounts. Bill Gates and Mark Bezos didn’t become billionaires this way, Mark says.

That’s why Mark’s company suggests being open to more imaginative, individually tailored options, like re-investing in one’s own business. Indeed, in this 2018 economy, especially in the wake of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, realizing dreams is not just the stuff of Horatio Alger sagas. It is within just about anyone’s reach, as long as they Dream Big! Mark’s article lays out the basic principles in the context of an inspirational immigrant success story that came straight out of Ireland to America.

How about Trump-Haley in 2020?

Dana Mathewson

From Fox News' Liz Peek.

Nikki Haley has said she will not run for president in 2020. But would she run for vice president in 2020 and then president in 2024? That could be the right path for the U.N. Ambassador, who has announced she will retire at the end of this year and who is definitely presidential material.

It’s a long time until 2024. Some speculate that Haley might run for the Senate should fellow South Carolinian Lindsey Graham be appointed to replace Jeff Sessions as Attorney General after the midterm elections. Barring that opportunity, she runs the risk of fading from view and missing her moment, as Chris Christie did in 2012. Whether or not the president is reelected two years from now with Haley as his running mate, she would naturally emerge as the frontrunner in 2024.

For Trump, too, putting Haley on the ticket makes all the sense in the world.

Many think that in 2020, President Trump is once again likely to face off against a female candidate. Whether it is Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand or, God forbid, Hillary Clinton, his opponent (male or female) will surely attack Mr. Trump for his alleged philandering and supposed mistreatment of women. Nobody could better deflect such accusations than a woman who has worked for the president, and who can speak from personal experience of his support for capable and outspoken females.

Haley is also a minority, the daughter of immigrants from India. Her mother started quite a successful retail business in the U.S. Haley’s experience working in that enterprise informs her pro-business platform, which she shares with Mr. Trump. Her background also allows her to champion intelligent immigration policies, and the benefits this nation derives from people who enter the country legally.

Nikki Haley’s U.N. tenure has received high marks, even from the left-leaning media. The New York Times lamented her resignation in an editorial titled "Nikki Haley Will Be Missed,” mainly because they portray her as a bulwark against what they deem "Mr. Trump’s worst policies and instincts.”

Haley has a formidable resume, more substantial than that of any of the women running on the Democratic side, barring Hillary Clinton whose credentials mainly fall into the voting "present” category, since she accomplished almost nothing during her stint as Secretary of State.

Haley was the first woman and the first minority to serve as governor of South Carolina. She had previously been elected a state legislator, and served as president of the National Association of Women Business Owners.

As governor, Haley was credited with being strong and compassionate as she dealt with a series of crises, including the mass shooting by Dylann Roof at the Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston. She led the citizens of her state in prayer on that occasion, and again in the aftermath of the horrific floods in 2015. The state’s second-largest newspaper said of her response to these crises, "time after time, Gov. Haley did a superior job.” They also noted that "when the nation turned its attention to South Carolina, she presented a smart, calm and confident face...”

[...]

By now you’re probably wondering; what about Mike Pence?

Mike Pence has been a loyal number two in the Trump administration. He has rarely made waves, reliably defended the president in times of turmoil (often, in other words) and has fulfilled the critical role of bolstering the White House’s relationship with the evangelical community. During the 2016 election, the religious right eyed Mr. Trump with understandable skepticism. He had few Republican or conservative credentials, and though he professed to be pro-life was visibly bewildered about what that meant. Moreover, his various scandals and numerous wives caused heartburn amongst evangelicals.

During that race, he needed Mike Pence, a Catholic altar boy in his youth and born-again Christian, to woo the evangelical community. This was an easy assignment, since Pence had long been that group’s pick among presidential candidates. As Richard Land, president of the Southern Evangelical Seminary and a Trump faith advisor told The Atlantic’s McKay Coppins, "Mike Pence is the 24-karat-gold model of what we want in an evangelical politician.”

With the help of Pence, as Coppins points out, Trump won "an astonishing 81 percent of white evangelicals’ votes, more than any Republican presidential candidate on record.” The president’s standing with that community remains high; as Robert Jeffress, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Dallas tweeted on September 2, "The primary reason Evangelicals voted for @POTUS by the widest margin of any candidate in history is because of his commitment to a conservative judiciary, and he's fulfilling that promise beyond anyone's wildest imaginations."

The ascension of Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to the nation’s highest court, along with other measures like moving our embassy to Jerusalem, has cemented Trump’s standing with conservative Christians. But as the president fought to deflect challenges to the Kavanaugh confirmation, he further alienated the #MeToo movement and injured his standing with women.

Approaching 2020, his deficit is with female voters. Knowing that more Supreme Court seats might open up, the Evangelical community is likely to stay on board. Thus, swapping out Mike Pence for Nikki Haley makes all the sense in the world for Trump.

Now he just has to find another job for Mike Pence which would allow him to gracefully step down, and encourage Nikki Haley to sign on. Both those steps will require some artful deal-making, to be sure. But we’ve already seen that the president is capable of doing just that.

Works for me. I'm sure that one or another Cabinet posts would be a good fit for Mike Pence and would give him a chance to flex his muscles. Remember, the post of Vice President usually is a pretty boring place where you don't get to do much.

But I think Ms. Peek's right. Haley has been a super-star in the U.N. Post and if she really has any eyes for the White House, giving her the Veep job would be a step in the right direction.

FBI should investigate "Spartacus" Booker

Jack Kemp

Are we about to see the all singing, all dancing, glittering and fabulous version of "Spartacus?"

Serious Sexual Assault Charges Against Senator Cory Booker Demand an Immediate and Thorough Investigation

From the article:

"Let's put this all in context.

We know Cory Booker has a history of sexual assault.

Cory Booker has hinted that he is gay (NTTAWWT):

Booker has focused on gay stuff in both Mike Pompeoâ€â„¢s and Brett Kavanaughâ€â„¢s confirmation hearing (NTTAWWT).

The complainant says he told his story to Ronan Farrow who showed no interest in the story (of course not, it involved a prominent black, liberal politician and possible presidential candidate).

In the past I might have been reticent to post on this but if there is one takeaway I gathered from the Brett Kavanaugh hearing it is that all accusations against public figures are true until proven otherwis, that because this is job interview not a court of law, that the candidate has to disprove all allegations against himâ€"and I also learned that denying an allegation is de facto proof of guilt. When coupled with the mantra of the Democrats since at least the Clarence Thomas hearing an the October Surprise investigation, that is, it isn't the quality of the evidence but the seriousness of the charge the requires an investigation, I think I am on very safe ground in demanding that the FBI conduct an immediate and thorough investigation, and take as long as they want.

Cory Booker accused of sexual assault by a man

Jack Kemp

Hey, Spartacus, I thought you were Roman - not ancient Greek.

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2018/10/cory_booker_accused_of_sexual_assault__by_a_man.html

From the article by Monica Showalter:

Sen. Spartacus Booker of New Jersey is shaping to be quite a piece of work.

After grandstanding through the Senate confirmation hearings about the evils of sexual harassment as he sat there in high-eyed judgment on the blameless Judge Brett Kavanaugh, calling himself 'Spartacus' for his feigned moral courage, he found himself exposed as a hypocrite as word of his 1992 first-person essay about how he sexually harassing a woman made its way back to print, in that Internet-is-forever reality.

Not much moral authority over Kavanaugh, pal.

Now it's gotten even worse: Some man has come out and said Booker sexually assaulted him, in 2014.
According to GatewayPundit, which has a four-page written statement from the still-anonymous victim:

An anonymous gay male stepped forward today and released a shocking description on how he was sexually assaulted by Senator Cory Booker back in 2014.
The man claims Booker came to his workplace to speak, met him as he was coming out of the menâ€â„¢s room, and then pulled him back into the restroom and sexually assaulted him.
The young man is a gay man and Democrat. The man tells a very detailed analysis on what took place at his work.

The accusation, published on GatewayPundit's page and given a curt no-comment from Booker's lawyer, appears substantial.

Apparently, sexual harassment has been a way of life for him, given the long span in years between each fairly strong looking accusation. And this is one of the Democrats' new generation of leaders, the answer to its Jurassic Park of current leadership.
Booker is a grandstander, a posturer, an attention-seeker, and now a sexual problem. Bob Menendez, the other New Jersey Senator, seems to be getting a run for his money. When are New Jersey's voters going to get rid of these people?

Cherokee's Nay Shun

Jack Kemp

Cherokee's Nay Shun now sung by Elizabeth Warren

Cherokee's Nay Shun
now sung by Elizabeth Warren to the tune of "Cherokee Nation"
as originally sung by Paul Revere and the Raiders:

I stole the soul of the Cherokee nation
To put on my Harvard application

Told a forked tongue "song and dance"
Stole an Injun's college chance
Took away an Indian's job
Told a tale, made Harvard sob
And "Pow Wow Chow" that was the rave
Came from my Walmart microwave
Cherokee people, Cherokee tribe
I took their name, it was a lie
I told the whole U.S. Nation

About my Hyatt reservation

Though I wear a skirt and hose
I still chew Redman tobacco
Cherokee people, Cherokee tribe
I took their name, it was a lie
But maybe someday I will learn
When Cherokees do me spurn, do me spurn, do me spurn

The party of Antifa fascists?

Paul Driessen

Antifa mobs have become a constant, aggressive thorn in the side of American politics – and a threat to civility and constitutional rights. They have harassed, intimidated and assaulted numerous people, and in recent weeks have verbally and physically assaulted Republican candidates and Members of Congress. That they often wear ski masks to hide their identities – and that few in the Democratic Party or "mainstream” media have denounced their behavior – is equally intolerable.

My article this week addresses this – and calls these mobs what I and people I've talked to believe they really are: fascists – shock troops for a political system in which an authoritarian government does not own businesses and industries, but strictly regulates and controls their actions and output – while suppressing citizens and their thought and speech via stringent laws, intimidation and even violence.

School cook who served kangaroo meat in a chili loses his job

A Nebraska public school district says it will not be serving kangaroo meat again after a recent incident that cost a cook his job.

Kevin Frei, the former junior/senior high school head cook at Potter-Dix school district, added kangaroo meat to a chili served for lunch on Oct. 10, according to a Wednesday letter from district superintendent Mike Williams.

When later confronted about the decision to serve the exotic meat mixed with beef, Frei said he used kangaroo meat for its nutritional value. It's a very lean meat, Frei told Williams, according to the letter.

Insects invading Virginia and Pennsylvania could be 'most destructive species in 150 years'

Dana Mathewson

From Fox News. Nothing about Global Warming is said in the article -- gee!

An invasive insect species native to China, India and Vietnam is posing a problem in at least two states.

The spotted lanternfly is harming crops in Winchester, Virginia, WDVM reported. The Pennsylvania-based Churchville Nature Center said the creatures were also spotted for the first time on its property Thursday.

"We are sad to report that we have had our first sighting of the spotted lanternfly on our property today," the center announced on Facebook."If it is new to you, this invasive plant hopper is threatening the forests of the northeast as well as the lumber and agricultural industries. Please keep an eye out for the insect."

The species poses a threat to agriculture and "has the ability to greatly impact the grape, hops and logging industries,” the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture warned.

"The insect causes damage to plants because of its method of feeding, the rapid buildup of large populations and the production of honeydew, a by-product of their feeding activity that serves as a medium for fungal growth. [Spotted lanternfly] can also be a nuisance pest to homeowners when found in large numbers,” the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said in a statement when the species was first detected in the state in February.

In February, Penn State confirmed it was teaming up with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to "tackle what could be the most destructive species in 150 years," the spotted lanternfly.

While these insects aren't known to harm humans, the pests raise concerns ahead of the holiday season. Spotted lanternflies may lay their eggs on Christmas trees which could then hatch inside homes, the Philly Voice reported.

I don't know if any of our readers are in the area where these flies have been encountered. If you are, I'd watch for them and take the steps recommended in the article.

I'm hearing Bobby Gentry's wonderful song "Bugs" in the back of my mind. . .

Pelosi heckled in FL restaurant

Jack Kemp

Well, let's see how the left likes it when the shoe is on the other foot. As the old joke goes, there is more than one definiton to Pelosi's condescending belief that "the peasants are revolting." It also means they are uprising against her politics.

https://nypost.com/2018/10/20/nancy-pelosi-cursed-out-by-protesters-in-florida/

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was hounded by a group of protesters in Florida with some cursing and calling her a communist.

Video of the confrontation shows the small group of hecklers shouting obscenities and calling Pelosi (D-Calif) a communist in English and Spanish as she walks into a Wednesday campaign event for congressional hopeful Donna Shalala in Coral Gables.

Also from the article:

"You don't belong here you f-ing communist f-k" one person howls. "You and your f-ing Democrats"

When Pelosi wordlessly walks by and enters the building, the protesters start pounding on the door.

"Open up! It's the Proud Boys in here" one person says, referring to the far-right hate group involved in a brawl in Manhattan last weekend.

The crowd then erupts into a chant of "Socialism sucks!"
