One of the biggest shortcomings of governments and other decision-makers is their failure or inability to pay adequate attention to the unintended consequences of policies, laws and regulations – often with serious impacts on many groups of citizens.
Two important current issues fall into that category. (1) EPA has announced plans to roll back the Obama era agenda for a 54.5 mpg mileage standard for cars and light trucks – imposed in the name of fighting "dangerous manmade climate change.†The plan has outraged environmentalists, but won plaudits from car makers and even more so from people who would otherwise have to drive and ride in the smaller, lighter, less safe cars that would result. (2) President Trump has implemented tariffs on imported steel and aluminum. These hidden taxes will help some domestic metal producers – but with numerous unintended effects on hundreds of companies that USE steel and aluminum, including oil and natural gas drillers, producers and pipeline builders.
My article examines both issues, and urges politicians and regulators on both sides of the aisle – and in our legislative, executive and judicial branches – to pay closer attention to the often serious unintended consequences of their actions.

Attorney Second Lieutenant, er, General Jeff Sessions has finally gotten off his seat and filed in court against California's sanctuary state law.
From Fox News:
Turning to California, he described "open borders" policies that refuse to apprehend and deport illegal immigrants as a "radical, irrational idea that cannot be accepted†and rejected the right of states to obstruct federal immigration law.
"There is no nullification. There is no secession,†he said. "Federal law is the supreme law of the land. I would invite any doubters to go to Gettysburg, or to the tombstones of John C. Calhoun and Abraham Lincoln."
He then tore into Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, who tipped off the public to an immigration raid in the San Francisco Bay Area last week -- a move he said led to as many 800 illegal immigrants evading capture and put both residents and law enforcement at risk.

It has only taken Sessions 14 months to act. America deserves a stronger AG than Sessions, who more nearly resembles Chief O'Hara from the old Batman television series than a serious law enforcer.
I guess Sessions just figured out the Caped Crusader isn't going to come to his rescue.
I've often wondered if the Democrats don't have something on Sessions; he seems completely paralyzed by fear. Given the fact that some of the top GOP people in the past - notably former House Speaker Dennis Hastert - have been compromised and subject to blackmail, I am somewhat suspicious when a man who talks a great game turns into Mr. Chicken.
Be that as it may, it's high time Sessions got busy. He should file charges against Schaaf, and send U.S. Marshalls to arrest her - and perp wallk her out of her own city hall. We've got to start acting like laws matter in this country.

Here is a story that piqued my curiosity. A mother of three in Coventry, U.K. was stabbed to death outside a late night Orthodox Christian service on Orthodox Easter. The woman - an Eritrean immigrant - is in critical condition after the three a.m. stabbing.
Here's the thing; over 7% of the population of Coventry is Muslim. And they have caused a lot of problems in the recent past, and in fact Coventry is the most dangerous city in all of Britain and one of the most dangerous in Europe.
So an immigrant from a country that has a high Muslim population is stabbed outside a church service in a city that has Muslim problems. And yet nobody seems capable of putting two and two together. (Hey, silly English person types, the answer is four).

I caught that yesterday and posted about it at The Aviary. A couple of takeaways from this:
1.These are the kids who we are being told must be listened to when they call for gun control. I always take advice from flat Earthers....
2.It's little wonder given the decades of teaching of relativism in the public schools. Kids have been learning their entire lives that there is no concrete reality, but rather reality is relative to the person. If you can't say anything is certain than how can you say the Earth is round? It may be in YOUR reality!
3.Nietzche predicted this back in the nineteenth century, that eventually western thinkers would start to question the fundamental assumptions of science and reality. Nietzche was a nihilist, a believer in nothing, and went insane as a result. But he had this part nailed, that eventually there would be people who would start to question the basic assumptions of our civilizations, such as that things are knowable and reality is real. We are now reaping the fruits of this assault on reason.
4. Our schools have become so useless that actual proof - such as Magellan circumnavigating the globe or the existence of satellites which allow intercontinental communications and makes it possible for these stupid kids to use the internet - isn't even being taught to these young people, or isn't taught in a way they can understand adequately. Goes to show how ignorant the teachers are, too.
5. When you stop believing in God you will believe in anything. Once they kicked God out of the schools education largely ceased. God is, after all, the measure of all things. When Man becomes the yardstick then reality disappears, because Man is full of wishful thinking and denial.

Yes, perverts are in fact using the Target bathroom policy to get their jollies:

According to Chicago police, a mother entered the bathroom with her young daughter. A man, insisting that he needed to use the restroom too, went into the women's room soon afterward.

The survey makes another interesting point:
Another nine percent said of young adults said they thought the planet was spherical but had doubts about it. In a disturbing display of indecision, 16 percent of millennials said they weren’t sure what the shape of the planet was.

Notice the indecision; that is the hallmark of modern thinking, modern education. Reality is a subjective thing, not an absolute, in the modern belief system and these young people have been taught to not hold Truths self-evident. This is a very dangerous thing, as people who do not believe in reality are essentially insane, and reality will knock very, very hard at some point.
If this is the future of America we are in worse trouble than anyone knows.
