WSJ: Hegseth Needs "Gravitas"!

Timothy Birdnow

Hey Wall Street Journal, we voted against this sort of weak-kneed RINO crap!

The Embarrassing Pete Hegseth

You guys are the embarassment. Hegseth is making the military great again.

Too bad you clowns didn't get the memo.

From the article:

A lot of people in the Trump administration think this is their moment and America’s last chance. They know what time it is, you don’t, it’s later in the game than you think, the damage is great and right now is the final hope of constructive national change. A sense of urgency is their central driving force.
But when people get into a "last chance” mindset, they become insensitive to, less mindful of and careful about, what they come to think of as "constitutional niceties.” When it is constitutional niceties—respecting the other branches’ authority, knowing the limits on your own, knowing what’s your lane and what the traffic will bear—that have kept us going since 1789, when the new government began functioning.
You can lose a republic while trying to save a republic. No matter what your level of idiocy, you don’t want that, you can’t want it, so you have to be careful. And serious.

When you are driven by a sense of urgency you must still try to act like a normal person—normal in your comportment, which means sober, judicious. Not like some pumped-up drama queen who makes everything more jarring and fevered, and who comes across as the living answer to the question, "What would it look like if Captain Queeg took Adderall?”

end That packs a whole lot of snark into just a couple of paragraphs, doesn't it!

And it is as tone deaf as anything I have everr read from "our side"; this is the RINO thinking that we are just in another political season and mustn't make waves because the wheel will turn and we won't like it. That is not what Donald Trump was elected to do; Amerians know full well that we ARE in a last chance situation, that time is running out on the American republic, be it on overwhelming, unpayable debt, the gutting of our military, insane social experimentation, etc. The Wall Street Urinal apparently doesn't believe any of that. They just want things back to the way they were when Republicans were good losers and Democrats let them eat the table scraps.

Any good student of history sees all the warning signs of collapse. We are dancing on the threshold.

And Pete Hegseth is to be condemend in their view for doing things like actually making his own leadership physically fit and kicking DEI and other social experiments out of the Department of War.

Newsflash geniuses; we arleady LOST the Republic, or nearly so, while you clowns promoted "comity" and "civility" and counseled surrender with grace.

The hit piece continues:

It was, as a former general said by phone, "just flat-out bizarre.” It was embarrassing to watch. He made everyone in the audience look smaller, which made their profession look smaller. How does that help America?

end

Notice said former general was not named. And notice he is a FORMER general, meaning Trump undoubtedly fired him, or he would have been named. If he is a former general he has nothing to fear from the President of Mr. Hegseth, so why hide his name?

That is a classic liberal media trick; use unnamed sources aka make it all up or quote someone with an ax that requires sharpening.

It continues:

Mr. Hegseth instructed them as if from a great height. What he told them is that the woke progressive era in the U.S. military is over. He will have a reset to the "warrior ethos.” "No more identity months, DEI offices, dudes in dresses. . . . We are done with that s—.”
OK. Understood. Understood, in fact, since he was appointed. Mr. Hegseth could have reiterated all this by secure video conference, or just sent a video.

end

Uh, they weren't listening to him. He did this publicly to make it unequivocable that promoting DEI and pushing all the social progressive stupidity is over - and putting these people on notice. He's already tried the quiet secure video conference route and they just ignored him.

After a deluge of mockery at Mr. Hegseth's style the artticle went back to the undoubtedly fired general:

The retired general later sighed on the phone and said: "I would like you to note that his hero, Norman Schwarzkopf, was fat. And George Patton wasn’t exactly a gazelle.” Sound military leadership has little to do with physical fitness and everything to do with strategic judgment.

fin

Hegseth did not command schwarzkopf or Patton. But he's right: you can't command the respect of your troops if you can't do what they do or are outside of the weight limits. And you don't think like a Marine, or a soldier, if you don't LOOK and ACT like one.

It continues:

Mr. Hegseth also seemed preoccupied with reimposing the military’s height requirement. There goes young Napoleon.

fin

Do we WANT Napoleon? Really? That's their complaint?

Napoleon roiled Europe and killed countless people because he had short man's disease.

It continues:

Here we must note we are a nation divided by algorithms. If your algorithm knows you as conservative and interested in military matters, you got a lot of videos of young soldiers and sailors acting out the past few years, and of service branches tweeting out showy political sentiments. You felt understandable alarm. If your algorithm knows you as liberal and not interested in military affairs, you haven’t seen that content, and will have been surprised by Mr. Hegseth’s reference to "dudes in dresses.” We are all getting different versions of reality every time we look at a screen, and it’s hurting us.

end

What kind of psycho-babbel is that? Algorithms? No, we are a nation divided between those who face REALITY and those who are play acting to make themselves feel morally superior. It is a divide between realilty and fantasy and Hegseth understand that little detail that seems to escape the good people at the Wall Street Journal.

There are no "different versions of reality" and the very fact they used that phrase proves the author of this piece is not a conservative but a liberal. Liberals do not believe in a concrete reality. They believe it is malleable and if they "visualize world peace" it will happen. It is a horribly destructive philosophy that erases the Truth and disdaines God in favor of a view where Dorothy clicks her heels together three times and goes home. It doesn't work that way.

Mr. Hegseth is right that woke progressive policies have no place in a merit-based, competitive military, but the military follows the orders of civilian leaders.

rnf

What point is being made here? Mr. Hegseth is doing the work he was hired to do BY THE CIVILIAN LEADERSHIP. Why is the career generals and admirals given a pass sbut not Hegseth? And frankly these generals and admirals had to know this was huring America's military readiness and should have resigned rather tham implement this nonsense because lives were at stake.

Therein lies the rub; Hegseth is the manto "talk down to them" even though they outranked him precisely because he was not playing politics and they were. To reach the top echelon of the military system you have to attend a woke Ivy League military academy, and kiss fannies on the way up. Most generals and admirals are more poilitician than warrioir. We needed a warrior and we got one. The Wall Street Journal conveniently forgets we haven't won a war since WWII, unless you count Grenada, and all under the leadership of this same bunch. They aren't warriors; they are politicians with uniforms.

All of them could leave and be better paid as board members and consultants. It wouldn’t be shocking if after Mr. Hegseth’s speech some of them moved up their retirements.

end

Uh, that's the idea; get the dead weight to retire. Duh.

They actually said it "He lacks gravitas!"

Anyone who uses such an idiot phrase deserves to be pilloried.

This is the most useless, self-serving hate filled steaming pile of parrot droppings I have encountered in an allegedly "conservative" publication, at least since Bill Kristol was still writing. Pathetic and sad.

But of course it lacks gravitas. Hey; he said it!

1 I have to say this is not the quality of thought and writing I expect from the WSJ. But I guess everybody's entitled to A Bad Day once in awhile.

2 Dana, remember the Wall Street Journal is one of the most liberal publications in America. ONLY the editorial board is conservative; the4 staff writers are left of the New York Times. A number of years ago a scholar whose name I do not remember went through the whole paper's archives and listed it most liberal of all major papers.

Speaking of poorr quality this post was carefully edited by me and my computer crashed. I had to just post it up as  is so it's not the best, but what theyheck. I was out of time (headiing to the Octoberfest in southern Illinois.)

3 I was going to say "See? You brought your computer crash on yourself by saying something that makes the Left look dumb." Then I remember the condition of your computers... Besides, you do what you should do and point up the stupidity of the Left all the time.
