Throughout history, when a People abandon their Trust in Government, invariably the Government seeks to regain that Trust though some type of catastrophic threat that will herd the People back to the proverbial Fold. Oddly, it works more times than it doesn't because, for the most part, People are followers, unquestioning and compliant subjects with few heroes among the crowd to rise above the mediocrity and mendacity.
