Why the Destruction of Roy Moore Should Bother us

Timothy Birdnow

One of the things that has me so riled about this destruction of Roy Moore is the way it is being done and the knock-kneed response of Republicans who should know better. This thing reminds me of Chamberlain at Munich in 1938; desperate to avoid any conflict with Hitler the British Prime Minister carved Czechoslovakia up and served it ala mode to Der Fuehrer in servitude and abject fear. Saying "Peace in our time" Chamberlain wound up unleashing the largest war in human history - all because he was too cowardly to stop Hitler. The little corporal had the audacity to take what was not rightfully his and Western leaders gave it to him out of fear of the very thing which they themselves unleashed.

Almost all of the arguments made by Conservatives and Republicans in general in this case are rooted in the same sort of fear. They fear being portrayed by the media as hypocrites, as defenders of pedophilia, and cower at the possible political fallout. But when has the media ever said a good word about them anyway? Oh sure; you don’t want to give them ammunition, but do you want to give them what they want so as NOT to give them ammunition? The attack is coming either way; may as well face it bravely. Giving in on this only emboldens them to come at you all the more aggressively. Ask Neville Chamberlain.

And this fear of charges of hypocrisy is pointless. Jesus was charged with that very thing Himself and He never caved. Much was whispered about Him, how He hung out with prostitutes and tax collectors and other lowbrow people. It was intimated he liked his sleazy women. It was also probably intimated He was homosexual, as He had this band of merry men around Him. But Jesus did not fear this, for He answered to a higher calling. Who are we to cower over some unproven and likely unprovable allegations?

The sad fact is those who want to toss Moore overboard have fallen prey to a trap set by the media. The media, much like Satan, derives it's power from the belief in it's power. It can seduce and is successful when not challenged. Herein lies the crux; the media is believed because nobody dares say they lie (except maybe Donald Trump) and so their lies stand. People will not listen to them if enough of us refuse to accept their premises and their lies. But it is scary, especially for politicians, who see all this sound and fury and believe the sky is crashing down on them. So they cave, give the media what it wants to stop the lightening from striking them, and thus perpetuating the power of the media, which is the power of the Left. The media is smart enough to pick off enemies one by one, like a wolf pack hunting buffalo. They don't go after the whole herd at once. It's what Saul Alinsky meant by "pick the target, freeze it, personalize, it, polarize it"; he was basically saying isolate one prey at a time and kill it. The rest will be easy to control out of fear of being next.

Which is why even Mike Lee and Ted Cruz - two courageous fighters for the Right - have tossed Moore under the bus. The hope his being eaten by the media will save them. But it won't because these are wolves who do not hunt at random. If you fail to fight now you will be eaten, even if you are not highly motivated to fight. This is a very greedy, hungry wolf pack.

Question; is it any coincidence that this is happening right after the Weiner/stein scandals and right when a scandal is breaking about sexual misconduct on Capitol Hill? At this very same time both stories break; coincidence? See, the claim will be that the GOP is corrupt and Congress should be given to the Democrats so it can be cleaned up. At the same time they can keep a conservative out of Washington. Republicans see this and quake in fear, knowing this is going to come after many of their own number, so they hope that by tossing a scapegoat to the wolf pack they will be eaten last. Won't work; feed them and they will come all the more readily.

So once again the GOP has made the very blunder the media and Democrats were expecting, walking into the kill zone as planned. Like Charlie Brown, they are forever full of hope that this time they'll actually kick that football and inevitably wind up concussed on their backs. Frankly, they deserve it; fool me once shame on you...

But does America? Maybe, but the country bequeathed to us deserves better. So do future generations. If we do not change the men and women in Washington we do not change Washington, and so America dies. It has been dying for a while now while venal scoundrels have looted the American treasury and stolen our future. Roy Moore was not the savior, but he was a start. We have allowed the cowards and the scoundrels to glory over us.

Apologies for mixing metaphors.
