Why Pay the NFL to Insult the American People"

Timothy Birdnow

Is the NFL fake news? Is there any real difference between the NFL and CNN?

Writing in American Thinker Tim Ziegler explains exactly why he has given up on the NFL.

Ziegler makes the obvious point first, then moves on to something a bit more, uh, well:

"It's not just the anthem controversy but that is the genesis of my disgust. I no longer trust the game. Let me explain. Following the Anthem protest in last season's Oakland vs. Washington game in September, 2017 it is alleged that the offensive line of the Raiders, upset at their quarterback's failure to support their protest, allowed him to be sacked and ultimately injured.

Now, it's not just the players’ political opinions that separate us, it is their potential lack of integrity that I question as well. Did this player drop the pass because of some other event? Did that player miss the tackle because he wants to send a message? What about that tide turning fumble? I no longer have to worry about it. But, you as a fan, player, coach, owner, sports-writer or announcer do. In 1919 the Chicago White Sox conspired to throw the World Series. They succeeded and eight players were identified as the conspirators. Major League Baseball had to figure out how to save their brand and the game. The owners brought in Kenesaw Mountain Landis as commissioner, and whatever his faults, he restored the American public's trust in baseball."

End excerpt.

Ah, yes. I am mindful of Superbowl XXXVI, where the "Greatest Show on Turf" had the fame stolen from them by the New England Patriots. That year the Patriots deployed spies to steal the Rams playbook and no doubt that was the tip of the iceberg. Throughout the playoffs the Pats got the benefit of every doubt by the officials, and all of their opponents complained bitterly after each playoff game. In the Superbowl the Rams could not run any of their patterns; they were slow, very slow. This was the fastest, most mobile team on the field, quite possibly ever. Why were they not able to get open?

Because the Patriots were holding, were interfering, were making illegal hits. I saw Marshall Faulk, the best fullback in the League, being hit and tackled when he didn't have the ball. The word is, Patriots coach Belichick had told his team to cheat "it's the only chance we have" and the league ignored it. Without the ability to run complex plays, to get men open, to maintain their precision offense, the Rams failed to do what they had done all season - blow the board open with their offense.

The League let them get away with it. Why?

Before the game Paul McCartney was interviewed and he gave away the dirty trick "wouldn't it be wonderful if a team called the Patriots won the Superbowl". This was the year Al Qaeda took out the World Trade Center. In other words, the League wanted to push a phony morality play. That Superbowl was not a real game but a staged event. Oh, the players were trying to win, and there was no script as in pro-wrestling, but the League took steps to give that game to the Patriots, thus creating a dynasty. Just as in the '70'w the Dallas Cowboys were "America's team" and given a pass on any and every dirty trick, so in the Millenium the Patriots were treated likewise.

Doubt me on this? Am I just being paranoid?

Well, look how close all the Superbowls have been over the last decade. In previous decades the game was usually a disappointment, with one team blowing out the other. But so much money was sunk into the Superbowl for a bad game that the League no doubt issued orders to the referees to keep the games close. In other words, there was collusion. Maybe the Russians were working with the NFL? If Trump was colluding with them, why not Roger Goodell (you know I am just kidding here; Trump was a USFL owner, not an NFL guy.)

The point is, if they were willing to tamper with the biggest sporting event of the year, what else has the NFL tampered with? Have they been picking winners and losers all along?

And the league went political a long time ago. I remember in the latter part of the last decade I got into the Rams website and it was all about Environmental activism and left-wing political causes. What did any of that have to do with football?

The NFL has jumped into every left wing political movement. They have sponsored gay pride events, and have even had floats in gay pride parades around the country. They have been promoting environmentalism. Oh, and consider some of the commercials the NFL blessed during SupeBowls. 84 Lumber prommoted illegal alien invasions, for instance. Budweiser did the same thing. Coca-Cola insulted Americans by having the national anthem sung in multiple languages thus suggesting our culture is trivial to the global village. These are just a few examples. Here are a few more.

The NFL PAC donated more money to Democrats despite hostility by the Donkeys to their game and their fan base. And Steelers owner Dan Rooney endorsed Obama/Biden, going so far as to alter the team logo temporarily with the faces of the BHO and Biteme on the stars in the frame.

Why has the NFL - a bastion of Red State America - turned to the dark side? Well, during the Obama era they had real cause to fear. Left wing sportscasters and others were pressing hard on the NFL, with veiled threats of government action over head injuries and a lack of "people of color" in the ownership of franchises, even while most players were black (and how racist is it when most players are millionaires and black and their white counterparts are kept out of the game?) But the politicization of the NFL predated the Obama era. Indeed, the league seems to have decided long ago that they were going to move leftward. They bought into the notion that America is going to become non-white and that the future of the NFL required a broader appeal to blacks, latinos, women, homosexuals, etc. So they began systematically rejecting their base just as the Democratic Party did. The owners - billionaires and the very rich, simply fell out of touch with their fans and the mainstream of American society, and came to believe that radical Progressivism was the future.

But they miscalculated with these kneeling protests. What they may see as tolerance for freedom of expression the average American sees as a middle finger to our country and her people. Furthermore, the argument that this is about freedom of speech doesn't fly; the average working joe knows he would be fired if he pulled some antic like this on the job. The fan is a customer, and the customer is supposed to be always right. But the NFL - a monopoly given special tax-exemption status - no longer believes that is the case.

And the players association has shown itself to be truly anti-American, teaming up with George Soros to promote "Resist Trump" activities. See here. Now, the players association is not the league, and has every right to freedom of speech, but it shows how the NFL is coming to be dominated by leftists, rich, pampered men who don't know how good the nation has been to them.

By the way, here is something not officially connected with the NFL, but I wonder who this is and if he is a player:

Amazing news. Fellow comrades @ShaunKing and the @ACLU have joined us in #TakeAKnee. Soon all will realize that America is evil. Join us!

End tweets.

In the end, the players have freedom of speech on their own time. When they are on the field they do not have the right to insult me and my country, any more than a cashier has that right, or a waiter. Yes, the owners can allow it, but then I have every right to be insulted and stop giving them my attention and money. Taking a knee works both ways.

I'll be watching the new league when it ramps up, and I suggest everyone else does likewise. There is no reason to pay people to insult us. It's time WE take a knee when the NFL players come on the field.
