1 As a youngster I spent many, many hours on my uncle's dairy farm, even running the hay hoist during haying season when my cousin who generally did the job was away at summer camp. I learned how to milk cows by hand, though with my small hands I wasn't good at it, and the only cows that submitted calmly to my efforts were the two big purebred Holsteins. Interesting how small hands worked well with big teats... don't try to read anything into that!

The only reason I bring this up is to say that in all the hours I spent on that farm, and especially in the barn with the cows, I don't have any great recollection of cow farts. Great amounts of cow shit, yes. Farts, no.
