The CIA has a venture capital firm that invests in some of the most important startups in the world.
You might know the CIA for being spies, secretly overthrowing governments, or collecting intelligence around the world that helps keep Americans safe.
In-Q-Tel is the venture capital arm of the CIA. The CIA created In-Q-Tel in February 1999 with $28 million in venture capital.
The goal was to tap into the private sector's tech expertise and deliver new commercial technologies to the CIA more rapidly. In-Q-Tel does that by investing in cutting-edge technology firms. In-Q-Tel has invested in companies like Google, Palantir, Stoke Space, and Swarm Technologies which was acquired by SpaceX.
The CIA keeps most of their investments private, but they have made over 300 investments with over 100 exits.
