I was surfing the Rassmussen Report and found a few interesting polls that I think Aviary readers may find interesting.
First, most people polled think illegal immigration is a serious issue. According to the poll,72% of likely voters think it is an important issue. 42% say it is Very Important, while just 27% think it is not that important and just 9% think it is not important at all. Also, a sizable majority suspect their elected officials are paying lip service to border enforcement only.
Ya think? If that weren't the case they would have allocated money for the wall by now.
In other news, the generic Congressional ballot showed the Donkeys pull ahead by a nose in a race between unnamed party hacks.
From the article:
"The latest telephone and online survey finds that 46% of Likely U.S. Voters would choose the Democratic candidate if the elections for Congress were held today. Another 41% would now opt for the Republican. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and eight percent (8%) are undecided."
Given the terrible news cycle for the GOP and Trump, it is not surprising that the Democrats gained ground, but the generic poll ALWAYS favors the Democrats and polls in general tend to over-sample the Democratic voters (who often are the ones lazing about at home while their Republican fellows are busy earning a living.) That the Democrats are ahead by just a nose should cause them to panic at this point, as Mr. Trump has been savaged beyond any previous President and the party in power usually loses seats in the midterms anyway. Given the free attack ads the Democrats have been the beneficiaries of they should be up by forty points or more. This is terrible news for them, although the media will try to spin it as bad news for Republicans.
Blue wave? Ri-ight...
Moving along, in what can only be termed bad news for the GOP and bad news for America, the public STILL has confidence in the lying, fake news-spewing Enemy of the People.
From the report:
"Fewer voters now say they’re following the news more closely than they were a year ago, but they still overwhelmingly consider the news they are getting reliable.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 38% of Likely U.S. Voters are following the news more closely than they were a year ago, down from 47% who said the same thing at this time in 2017. Sixteen percent (16%) are following the news less closely than they were a year ago, up from 12% in 2017, while 45% are paying about the same amount of attention to the news today as they were 12 months ago."
How anyone could think the mainstream news is anything beyond pulp fiction is beyond me, especially given the endless "anonymous sources" and the parade of false predictions, fake news stories, discounted claims, and general hysteria by the people who cried like hungry babies on election night.
On the bright side, three quarters of Americans rate their lives as good or excellent and consumer economic confidence [link]remains near record highs. Oh, and 43% say America is headed in the right direction and America will remain the most powerful nation on Earth for the rest of the century.
Could any of this have been said during the Obama years? Would we be talking about any of this had Hillary Clinton won?
