Trump has overturned Biden's ridiculous CAFE standards in which American automakers had to produce fifty poiund vehicles to get the gas mileage required by the autopenidency.
Physics matters, and you cannot produce the kind of results Biden was demanding without making vehicles lighter, and hence less safe.
The inclusion of computers in cars had been a big leap forward in gas mileage and the left (at least the stupid left, not the plotting left) thought it proved gas mileage was just a matter of will. So, like the transgender movement, these lefties came to believe it was just a matter of telling automakers to do it and it would happen because it worked at one point, But the low-hanging fruit is all gone now and unless there is a major innovation that revolutionizes gas mileage as swith the precision coming from computerizing automobiles we have only the option of taking the weight off. Losing weight is good for fat Americans but not so good for fat Americans when it's the weight of their vehicles.
Biden was demanding 50 mpg - and that was doing nothing but driving up costs.
Bear in mind wha the automakers had to do was produce more electric vehicles and other vehicles people did not want. The CAFE standards are based on an average, not on individual models of cars. So if you build a gas guzzler you have to build a riceburner to balance it out. And lose money on them.
Thank GOD the autopen lost the last election!

The automakers also had to make their cars more complex to achieve that mileage. My 2017 Chevy Cruze has a 1.4 litre engine, to keep gas usage down, but to enable it to keep up with the parade it has a turbocharger. It keeps up with the parade just fine (it drives like a sports car), but it also demands full synthetic oil, which costs more -- though I can go farther on an oil change. In fact, I don't have to track oil mileage because if I push the right buttons on the steering wheel I get a display that tells how much oil life I still have left.
Same with my 2020 Equinox, which has a 2.0 litre engine.
