They are turning Captain America into a chick too. Why does anyone think this will be successful? They know it won't. It's about moving the culture, about changing traditional sex roles and promoting the transgender movement.

1 A good point was made about there not being proper roles written for strong, sexy women. If I'm not mistaken, that's been going on for a long time. Didn't most of the Catwoman remakes fall flat? The current agenda is leading to the suppression of really good stories.

Or is it just that nobody in Hollywood knows how to write anymore? Most of the movies coming from there are pretty lousy these days.

2 I think it's political correctness in no small measure.

How do you make a good, interesting character and stay within the bonds of pc?

And of course the Chinese fund most movies these days so you can't make them bad guys. And of course you can't make Islamic terrorists bad guys. Bad guys always have to be the same bad guys they always use - old rich white guys or neo-Nazis. It's ABC gum.

And since a lot of movies are made in Canada these days this is all the worse for it. Canada is the cradle of political correctness. They've been practicing it since the British took over a French colony.

Also, who learns proper english anymore? Who reads the great classics anymore? You are getting writers who do not possess the tools needed to do writing. They have all grown up on comic books and sitcoms. JJ Abrams is an example. He's the top guy in the field but his influences were not great literature but Star Wars and a host of other pop-culture genre. And he's the most creative guy out there these days Dana.

3 It takes a lot of work to be a good writer. And it takes a lot of work to be a good screenplay writer, which isn't the same thing at all. And a good grounding in the classics helps in both cases. So, since as you say we aren't teaching the classics anymore, it's inevitable that the quality of movies will decline.

The dumbest thing Hollywood is doing these days is making new versions of old movies, and in every case they're duds. I shudder to think some idiot with more money than brains will decide to reshoot "Casablanca," or "Gone With The Wind."
