Something hit me today, we are being governed based on the lowest common denominator of society.
Because someone does not act responsibility, our all-knowing politicians make laws to restrict my freedom all in the name "it could happenâ€.
So as society gets more reckless, I end up having to suffer the hassles to make sure that "it won’t happenâ€.
A NOTE FROM TIM:Yeah; the put up guardrails to protect us from our own stupidity, which they then encourage. That is freedom to liberals; being able to act in any fashion they choose and making society protect them from the consequences of their own stupidity. Very different from our idea of freedom which is to be left alone to behave responsibly or suffer the consequences. They believe in no restrictions on their behavior with law to keep them from falling off a cliff while we believe in staying away from the cliff by virtue of our own efforts with law to punish those who push us over.
It's rather what was meant by "hard cases make bad law"; when governments make law based on hard cases they play to the common lowest denominator and force all of us into the straightjacket. This further encourages reckless behavior from those who are already reckless and stifles the good behavior of those who are responsible.
It's what liberals do best. And when their schemes don't work they double down on them, push for more laws to fix the problem their last laws created. They are like the old lady who swallowed a fly and ended up dying from eating a horse.
