FWIW you might want to check out the piece by JR Dunn at American Thinker "Dodging the Apocalypse". It may help explain the computer problems you were having as well as like me asking why the hell arent we more concerned about what our Sun can do to us and how we are going to deal with it when it happens. Its an eye opener

So solar activity was causing the glitches eh?
In 1859 there was the Carrington Event which blew out all the world's electronics. Telegraph offices caught on fire and miles of cable had to be replaced. But as there was little in the way of electronics back then it didn't matter that much. If we were hit by a coronal mass ejection comparable to Carrington today the whole civilization would collapse.
