a year (paid for out of green levies on your electricity bills), it has
privileged access to the grid and is paid extra compensation when the
wind blows too strongly and the grid cannot cope with the energy output.

In terms of land covered, wind takes 700 times as much space to generate the same energy that one low-rise shale gas pad can….
Windmills are 17th century technology. They are a bit more efficient than the ones used by the Dutch back then, but not much. The fact is if wind were to be commercially viable we would need a much different approach. Spinning blades are just too inefficient to make this viable. We need a more creative approach - or simply chuck the whole thing as unworkable.
