The Night They Cancelled Old Dixie

James Doogue

I wish I. Could write like this.

'It is important to remember that we stand on the shoulders of giants, not angels. We were not lifted up here in perfection but rather navigated blindly across troubled waters.

The West’s great victory is not in how we got here, but that we got here. The hero of Robertson’s song, although he lived in a society that had yet to understand the true value of equality of opportunity, was a good man. That he was not perfect is irrelevant.

To be woke is to disregard goodness in the absence of perfection. To be woke is to pretend we are better than our predecessors. Wokeness assumes that those who went before us were contained by smaller horizons.

A more ignorant and ignoble world view is difficult to imagine.'

The Woke; Disregarding Goodness in the Absence of Perfection

America’s greatness was set in the immediate aftermath of its Civil War when the victorious northern states declined the opportunity to execute the leaders of the defeated south. Rather than cancel a way of life, as today’s protestors demand, the United States of America saw the goodness in troubled men and sought to bring it out of them.

Courage in art is not the ability to ride the wave but to be thrown by it and recount the ordeal with cutting honesty.

1 I really think that one huge manifestation of the greatness of this country was the way we have so often dealt with our enemies in their defeat, especially as in at the end of the Civil War. Ulysses S. Grant proved himself an incredibly wise man in his meeting with Robert E. Lee, when he accepted Lee's surrender, which ended the war. I will not go into the details here, as they are available in many places, but suffice to say the total idiots who are pulling down the statues of both men are showing that they know nothing about either of the men represented by those statues.

2 We have always been far more magnanimous in victory than any other nation on Earth, but to hear the wokies we were worse than Genghis Khan.

Of course, it's not about anything we did but WHO WE ARE.

Odd; the Left used that argument to justify the societal acceptance of homosexuality and gay marriage, and even used it as a civil rights argument; you are who you are and can't change, they said. Now they want to destroy who WE are because of who we are.

3 Waitaminute, Tim. I don't think it's that simple. If I remember it, first they said "You're who you are and you can't change." Then, once they got everybody to go along with that, they reversed themselves and said "You're who you feel you are," and you should be able to get the doctors to change your body to match your feelings -- at taxpayers' expense, of course. Once they got enough courts to go along with that, it became "You can just dress the way you feel you are (on any given day or even hour, of course) and use whichever (public) bathroom you want." And they got outfits like Target to go along with it.

And of course, anybody who objects to any of this, especially those who say this runs counter to their Biblical upbringing, is branded a "hater."
