The Night the Lights Went Out

Timothy Birdnow

Joe Biden is switching off the lights. Mr. Biden is pushing forward with a total ban on incandescent light bulbs, and forcing LED lights on the entire country to combat a fictitious "climate change".

First, where in the Constitution does it say the Federal Government may regulate how people light their homes? Strange; I can't find it anywhere. Yes, there is a clause about regulating interstate commerce, but that isn't supposed to mean simply killing off a legal product just because they think it a bad idea. The Commerce Clause -  Article 1, Section 8, Clause 3 - is a power limited to CONGRESS, and does not invest authority with the President to do such things. It is primarily intended to guarantee the free flow of commerce between states - not to squash it.

Second, it is a solution in search of a problem. The incandescent light bulb has worked fine for the public for decades and there is no problem with it. This is being done solely because some busybodies think we can save energy and thus fight a nebulous and unproven "climate change". The point is the incandescent bulb is suffering because Biden wants to go to an all-electric economy and wants that elecricity for other purposes - like electric go-carts (which he calls cars.)

But it is not the government's province to promote such things. The market is still supposed to be the final determinant. The market has spoken; the public prefers incandescent bulbs to the too-blue LED's. So Mr. Biden and the other Progressive tyrants are going to just force this down our collective throats anyway.

I would add that LED lights cost more than incandescents, and it was possible to get new bulbs for cheap in the old days so you had light even if you were short of cash. Now it's a fair expense.

Mostly this is just a way of making us accept their will. How do you break a horse? You get it to accept the bit in it's mouth first. It will spit it out  a time or two, but eventually give up and take it. They did that with those curly-que bulbs a few years back that everyone despised. So they took their time, and now are forcing this bit in our mouths. After the bit comes the blanket and saddle and eventually the poor beast is being ridden and compelled to go where the man desires and it has no choice.

That is what is happening here.

Frankly I'd like to plug some of these bulbs into Mr. Biden's socket.

1 I think just about everything Biden is, has and will do is completely crazy lol, anyone else have thoughts about his decision making ability or lack thereof? kitchens

2 LED bulbs are a mixed blessing. They last longer (in many installations) than incandescents, although they are not as immortal as their flack would lead you to believe they are. Some, though not all, of them will work with dimmers. But don't put them in your garage door openers! I tried 'em in mine, and they did not communicate with the radio in the unit. And although my technician understood this, he said this problem was just beginning to be realized and as a result, some people's units were being replaced, at a cost of hundreds of dollars. My guy was happy to give me the lesson and not even charge me for a service call.

One advantage of them is that if you drop one of them, they don't shatter. And since they don't generate much heat, you can take one out of its socket barehanded with no problem. That also that also is a good situation in, say, a desk lamp, where the lack of heat will not deteriorate the switch above the bulb.

I mentioned dimmers: some LEDs don't like dimmers, and will tend to blink if installed on a circuit with a dimmer unless the dimmer is set to full power.

3 The Gulberg Executive Multan map is designed to provide buyers with a comprehensive layout of the entire project. The map features all the blocks, roads, and infrastructure of the project, making it easier for buyers to choose a plot that suits their needs. The map is easy to read and provides a clear overview of the project, making it easier for buyers to plan their investment.

4 I don't know what destroyed your garage door opener, Dana, but it had nothing to do with the LED in the light bulb socket. The idea the a light bulb "will not communicate with the radio" is sheer nonsense. The radio does nothing other than trip a switch the turns power to the light bulb socket on and off. I suspect your technician had no idea what caused the problem and was blowing smoke up your backside to conceal his ignorance. We can no longer buy incandescent bulbs in CA, so I've had an LED in my garage door opener for over five years now. That doesn't mean I like LEDs. I don't. I hate the damned things, but there are enough valid reasons to hate them that we don't need to go making up spurious ones.

5 Bob Bieden isn't really the one making the decisions; he is the public face of a very radical cabal. And everything they are doing is designed to burn America down, not help it. These people want us to suffer, to get our "just deserts" for being more successful than other nations. And they want to build a New World Order that is international and socialist. If you understand that you will understand how the Bidcen Administration seems to always land butter-side down.

6 Dana, I'm fine with people having the choice, and in fact they have some merit (although I hate the blue color) but they are better than those curly que things that they were trying to force on us a few years ago (which took an hour to actually grow to full brightness.)

There are merits - like the lack of heat. That helps a lot in hot weather.

But they also have lack of heat, which is terrible in cold weather, especially outside. I heard they were putting those things in traffic lights and street lights up north and the snow would just bury them and someome would have to clean them off; they couldn't melt their way out.

BTW I have a bunch of LED lights in my chandalier with a dimmer and one light keeps flickering. Just the one. I've moved the bulb to other spots and seen the same thing. Guess only some of them have that problem. I've been trying to figure out what was wrong - now I know.

7 Bill, I don't know how you can live in the People's Republic. They have their hand in EVERYTHING there.

8 Bill, you're dead wrong on this one! For one thing, you weren't here, so you didn't see what happened. Nothing was destroyed, to begin with. My tech removed the LED bulbs that a friend had put in the unit (thinking he was doing me a favor), put the old incandescent bulbs back in and everything worked fine and has continued to do so. I don't deal with technicians who blow smoke; I use ones who know what they're doing. This is obviously an area where you have no expertise.

9 Sorry, Dana, apparently 20 years experience as a US Navy and industrial maintenance electrician badly misled me. In a similar vein, my car quit running and after I washed the windshield it ran fine. Oh, minor detail, I also filled the gas tank, but it was washing the windshield that solved the problem.

10 Well, Bill, I don't know how many electric garage door openers you had to deal with in the Navy. Your experiences sadly didn't qualify you for knowledge of my situation, though I admit I didn't do a good job of explaining it up front.

I think we should probably just let this one go to bed, have another drink and stay friends.
