It is once again the Department of War and not the milquetoast "Department of Defense".
I am mindful of the Peter Sellers classic "Dr. Strangelove" where the U.S. army is storming an Americcan airbase to capture Gen. Ripper, the guy who sent the attack orders to strike the Soviet Union. There is fighting in front of a big sing that says "Peace is our profession". Peace isn't and never was. As Rush Limbaugh used to say, the military is there to smash things and kill people. That is it's primary function.
So let us call a spade a spade. Confucious once stated that no nation can be restored until you first "true the language". He was right (and an awfully wordy guy). Without precision of language we lose sight of what it is we are trying to accomplish - and lose sight of who and what we are. That is why the Left is always monkeying with words, changing pronunciations and redefining terms (like using "gay" for homosexual). They seek to change the way we think by changing the meaning of language. We can only restore America is we first restore the language we use. Trump is trying to do that here.
Granted, he'll ultimately need Congress to change this name, but he can still start the process by making his Administration use "Department of War" now. After a while it will be a fait-accompli and Congress will wind up going along.
It's a good thing. We have a President who understands the value of returning to the old ways of doing things.
Oh, and the more belligerant "Department of War" gives the military a sense of what it is they are actually there to do. Now they think the military is a social experiment laboratory. Defense becomes "fighting climate change" or "fighting for civil rights" and is not about the actual job of the military, which is to smash things and kill people.
That's why we've lost most of the wars since the name change; we don't think like warriors at the DOD. Maybe we will at the DOW.
