Here is an interesting discussion on Facebook.
Steven Chase posted the following:
Woke-ism, just like Christianity back in the days, has burrowed deeply into elite society and the institutions of state power.
Now we are locked in a culminating phase.
The third generation of Woke—true to Late Roman antecedents—must cast down the Pantheon of American Exceptionalism, of Founders and Heroes, establishing a new divine order that will wash away America’s sins of Racism, Patriarchy, and Heteronormativity.
What we are witnessing at the moment is probably the most epic culture war the planet has witnessed and Christian theology through desacralization has given birth to its potential gravedigger.
This could be either a rebirth or the end of history as we know it in a bad way. - (From Philosopher/Lawyer Alexander Von Marstall)
Tom White isn't happy about that:
Interesting that you find parallels with Woke-ism and Christianity in terms of destabilizing existing culture. You could have professed the same methodology with regard to any movement that is antithetical, but you chose Christianity, and by doing so, equated it with Woke-ism. Chistianity is likely the most significant cultural influence that Woke-ism seeks to undermine.
Steven replies:
The comments are not mine. But I think the author is on to something big. With all due respect
Tom adds:
He may be on to something in the broad sense of the dynamics necessary to undermine existing cultures. The quote does not address the merits of the cultures that Christianity sought to, and Woke-ism seeks to, sabotage. They are diametric opposites.
Steven replies:
Oh, I agree wholeheartedly.
I reply:
Ross Douthat, argued that Liberalism is a Christian heresy. https://neveryetmelted.com/2012/04/23/liberalism-only-a-christian-heresy/comment-page-1/ I concur. In fact, I would say it's more than just a Christian heresy but a Protestant one. The rise of Liberalism coinceded with the rise of Protestantism, and it uses the tactics and tools the Protestants used to successfully rebel against the Catholic Church. Modern Liberalism is in some ways Christianity without Jesus (Just as Islam is Judaism without Jews.) It is parasitic. It uses the symbols and practices of Christianity but rejects the core of it. As such it leads believers into apostacy and gives many non-believers a religion of their own. If you read Rousseau you will see it. Rousseau advocated replacing Christianity with a false god, the "collective will" and the Church with the State. Rousseau was the father of socialism. Fascists and Marxists both come from that same rotten root. In the end both come from a rejection of and usurpation of Christianity.
