From "Friend Eddie." Nothing awfully new here except that Israel's methods are explained more fully. Question: does Steve Cortes still work at CNN? Seems to me that he goes "off the reservation" here by agreeing that armed guards are the answer.
A NOTE FROM JACK KEMP:
Yes, I remember walking by an elementary school in Tel Aviv and watching the kids play outside with an armed guard with an Uzi machine gun in his hands, supported by a shoulder strap.
And from Tim:
Oh, Jack, I'm sure those Israeli kids were scarred for life from that horrible thing they had to witness! (/snark). There was a time when police walked a beat in the cities, too, and nobody felt traumatized about a uniform wearing armed guard keeping watch. In fact, children were told to go to a policeman if they were lost or in trouble. Gee, if we only knew then what we know now we could have saved people in this country so much emotional damage! (I guess the snark wasn't really turned off after all.)
As a caller pointed out on Rush Limbaugh the other day, nobody thinks twice about armed guards at banks or in malls, but there are many who refuse to guard their most precious possessions, their children. Strange how the liberal mind works.
