The infamous signature

Dana Mathewson

Everyone is moaning about Trump's having caved on the "resolution." Even Rush was horrified.

On checking the comments to today's Day By Day cartoon, I found some good observations. After a few indulged in the usual moaning, one person said:

"You guys give up too easily. Everybody screamed, "We’re DOOOOOMED!!!!” after Roberts shafted the country on ZippyCare. Today, it’s pretty much gutted.

BTW It’s not a budget (if it were, he would have to spend it), it’s just another continuing resolution. The money is discretionary. Trump doesn’t have to spend anything he doesn’t want to spend.

And the fun part is it has to be renewed in September , right before the election. Like the Norks and DACA, I sense another Trump-laid trap."

Another guy agrees with the above and adds:

"Trump would have fallen into a trap had he vetoed the budget. He would have been shafted by the Uniparty Congress with a deadly veto override. <<<— No end of damage to his perceived power, and the MSM would have blown their vuvuzelas endlessly, nonstop."

And another:

"I think [Trump] mentioned this week that something "very special” was going to be announced soon, in the next month or so, and one can reasonably assume the Deep State indictments (all the way to the top?) are being carefully prepared for public viewing. In other words, the yugest political nuclear explosion since Watergate. Just sayin’. Perhaps an ugly spending battle and government shutdown are being backburnered out of necessity, given the enormity of what’s apparently coming right down the track…

So don't lose hope yet, folks! You can read the whole thing at https://www.daybydaycartoon.com/comic/turn-the-other-cheek-again/#comments if you want to.

A NOTE FROM TIM:

I wonder if Trump didn't sign this thing because he fears there may be a military crisis soon and he cannot afford the military to go unfunded at this point. Maybe.

The commenter who mentioned this comes up again in September thinks it is a trap by Trump; I beg to differ. The GOP is  the one in the trap, because they won't be able to dodge this just before the election.  And the public will remember.

Any way you slice it, this was a bad deal for the country and will hurt Trump.  He should have found another way.
