The Flourishing Life in the Norwegian Arctic during Ice Age

Timothy Birdnow

Gee;I thought it was hotter than at any time since the Cretaceous! That's what the global warming crowd would have us believe anyway.

75,000-Year-Old Lost World of Arctic Animals Uncovered in Norwegian Cave

Why were all these critters flourishing in the cold, cold depths of the Norwegian Arctic 75,000 years ago if it was so much cooler then than now?

This was, of course, the Ice Age and thus should have been much colder than our current Holocene warming period, right?

The article says this was during a warming period but fails to make the obvious connection; these critters were FLOURISHING in the warm weather. Why did many of them become extinct? Because IT GOT COLD AGAIN! Warm weather is good for almost all life.

Also, how did it get warm in the first place, what with there being a complete dearth of automobiles or coal plants or whatnot? It just warmed up; imagine that! No exhaust fumes, no industrial emissions,no human or cattle flatulence, none of it!

Were Neanderthals and Davisovans running their Fred Flintstone cars on petroleum back then? Shoot; it would be easy to get, so close to the original formation of the oil and all!

Tthe Pleistocene was winding down at this point and the warming planet was becoming more hospitable to life in general and humans in particular.

Yes, there was the late Pleistocene Quaternary Megafauna Extinction as the planet's climate shifted from Ice Age to the warming Holocene, but that was to be expected; so many species had adapted to the cooler climate after all. It's nature's way of continuing life in an unstable environment. (There are very few species that still existe after major geological changes; crocodiles are one example, and they have lived through the worst ice ages despite being warm-weather beasts.) But overall a warming tend leads to greater greening of the planet, and where plants flourish so do animals. Not always the same animals granted. Our ancestors have flourished through ice ages and warming periods and no doubt will continue as the climate changes, as it inevitably will. The Earth does not have a homeostatic environment. Homeosttasis is an illusion that the Gang Green keeps fostering to allow it to regulate every aspect of life.

1 They must have been powering their SUVs and hybrids with petroleum, yessiree. No electrics to be had, not even Baker Electrics, much less none of Musk's wonder cars. There may have been the odd Stanley Steamer...
