"Only 27% of Americans have a great deal of confidence in 14 major American institutions on average, a record low since 1979 and a 5% drop from 2021, according to a poll conducted by Gallup, which found sharp declines in trust for the three branches of the federal government, the presidency, the Supreme Court and Congress."

Tim adds:
To quote the Bard "the fault dear Brutus is not in our stars but in ourselves."
Or, as the Bible tells us, a nation gets the government it deserves.
And as America has kicked God out of public life He has given us what we see now. It's almost Newtonian in it's equal and opposite reactions.
I am mindful of the Book of Lamentations:
"How the gold has lost its luster, the fine gold become dull! The sacred gems are scattered. at every street corner. 2 How the precious children of Zion, once worth their weight in gold, are now considered as pots of clay, the work of a potter’s hands!"
Doesn't that sound like modern America?
The fact is the lack of trust in our institutions is entirely justified, because they are all corrupt and vile and the good ones have been perverted (like what they did to the Boy Scouts) or are simply gone. So we are left with the "profitable" insitituions, the ones that enrich and empower the rulers at the expense of the ruled.
But whose fault is that? Ultimately ours, as we thought ourselves rich and thus became poor, thought ourselves wise and thus became fools, thought ourselves secure and now find ourselves at the mercy of events outside of our control.
When the Left began pushing God out of public life America should have turned on them with great anger and furious wrath. But so many were fine with it because it didn't discomfit them. And when they began pushing moral evils like the sexual revolution too many remained silent. And when they began aborting babies too few worried about it. Now we are paying the price.

Have you ever thought about the Israelites, who asked Aaron to make them a golden calf after Moses hadn't come down the mountain after a few weeks? What if just one of them had said "Are you f**king out of your mind (in modern parlance)? We can't do this! Moses has never failed us, he'll be back, and more to the point, the Lord has never failed us. Just sit down and shut up!" And there's no record of castigation of Aaron.
Many times I don't think Exodus gives us anything like the whole story...

I think there probably was more to the story too.
