1 Rowlings is a crackin' good author, and the Harry Potter series of books is very entertaining; my wife and I had the whole series and enjoyed them very much until we had to "offload" them and a bunch of other books when we moved. And I felt that Rowlings' arguments against transgenderism made a great deal of sense. 

Yes, she wrote about witchcraft in her books, but it was in an entertaining manner, not in a way that suggested she was pushing it as a real thing.

2 I agree with all of what you said here Dana. She is a good writer and she meant to entertain not to promote. But it doesn't change the fact her subject matter was positive towards witchcraft and that, like many things forbidden to Man, it comes with a price. That price is  both personal and civilizational.
I am sure she didn't think about that at the time. And Britain has long been more tolerant towards witchcraft than has the U.S. (just look at the Salem witch trials) largely because the aboriginal population there practiced nature worship before Christianity arrived and the underpinnings of that are still there.
But there is a reason why there is a prohibition in the Bible and while Rowlings may have just wanted to create whimsical characters on a par with, say, Tolkien, in the end she promoted a force she should not have dealt with. Tolkien's magic was framed from a Christian perspective. From what I've seen of the Harry Potter stuff it is not. Fun, interesting, but not remotely Christian.
That, of course, doesn't mean she's going to Hell for it. It does mean she is on the radar of Hell though. And the forces of darkness are now marching against her. She served her purpose.
