I agree; this was primarily a problem of messaging - not the war, and not "affordability" and not anything else based on policy. Trump's policies would all have been popular had the GOP defended them to the American People.

Prices would have been the same no matter what Trump did because the money supply remains inflated and Trump has no control over that, plus the interest rates remain high and Trump has no control over that either. Trump's big mistake was appointing to head up the Federal Reserve another Keynsian, this one an "inflation hawk" meaning he will raise rates to "keep the economy from overheating" aka to avoid economic growth on the ridiculous theory that people buying more raises the price of things (as if businesses don't just make more stuff.

Yes, Trump did impose tariffs on goods, but there is zero actual evidence tariffs drive up prices in any major way. History is full of raised tariffs and was not accompanied by inflation.

Trump needed to explain all this. For reasons that are baffling he didn't. I suspect it was because his top advisers - especially Susie Wiles - told him to back off, to avoid getting into those fights because the big donors wouldn't give to these candidates. Well, how did that work out for ya?

Trump wins when he's being Trump. The problem is there are always people trying to reshape him and push him into doing things that he doesn't think is right. We needed the old "give 'em hell Donald" but got Bush II this election. Someone convinced him to tone it down. Of course, I've heard that from Republicans for years now, saying "I love his policies but wish he'd tone it down" well, this is what you get when Trump tones it down. The public may claim they don't like that but the reality is they love it, it's the very same reason pro-wrestling is popular. It was why Bill Clinton had such high poll numbers.
