The approaching catastrophic Arctic meltdown armageddon!

Hi All

Today I received an email from a local warmist who submits articles to the Geelong Indy as I do. A few months ago he submitted a couple of articles saying that amongst other things that coal generators are not despatchable and that the current warming cycle is unprecedented to which I replied refuting his claims. He then sent in another letter saying he wanted to debate us sceptics and I started a correspondence with him. To cut a long story short, he was not willing to discuss anything contradicting the global paradigm. I in return told him he is welcome to attend our group meetings and have his say, but true science demands that nothing is sacred and anything can be discussed. He never replied and I have not heard from him until today when he sent an email containing only the link to the guardian article with the very scary headline.

"Arctic-warming-scientists-alarmed-by-crazy-temperature-rises”. Wow, so scary! By coincidence I was about to draft a write-up on this catastrophic approaching Armageddon!!!!!

Let’s start by bypassing all the "scaryness”, hype and spin and look at the facts and the scientific method. Following are some graphs from the Danish Meteorological Institute which show that large temperature swings sometimes happen at this time of the year.

However, the current high temperature at the Arctic is the highest in the DMI record and apparently is caused by warm winds from the Pacific and Atlantic. Could possibly be an aftermath of the recent El Nino?

Interestingly from the Guardian article above titled "Arctic-warming-scientists-alarmed-by-crazy-temperature-rises”

"Others caution that it is premature to see this as a major shift away from forecasts. "The current excursions of 20C or more above average experienced in the Arctic are almost certainly mostly due to natural variability,” said Zeke Hausfather of Berkeley Earth. "While they have been boosted by the underlying warming trend, we don’t have any strong evidence that the factors driving short-term Arctic variability will increase in a warming world. If anything, climate models suggest the opposite is true, that high-latitude winters will be slightly less variable as the world warms.”” Zeke Hausfather is a high priest of the church of warmism and for him to say this is only "natural variability” is significant. He says models "suggest the opposite is true”. LOL. Now that is ironic to the nth extreme.

I wonder whether our erstwhile warmist actually read the guardian article or just the headline? LOL

And also from the article, an archbishop of global warming, none other than Michael (Hockey Stick) Mann said….

"This is too short-term an excursion to say whether or not it changes the overall projections for Arctic warming,”

The above statements totally shoot down any theory that this is some sort of precursor to Armageddon

So Arctic temperature is high and Europe, North America and Siberia are experiencing record low temperatures, snow and ice. But of course that is only weather!

Imagine it was the other way around where Arctic temperatures were low and European temperatures high! The headlines would scream "Europe melting in unprecedented ultra extreme heatwave”.

You see, the whole global warming/climate change cannot ever be disproved. It lacks any criteria which can disprove it. It winter are cold, it’s global warming, if winters are hot its global warming. If the Antarctic is gaining ice, its global warming, if the Antarctic is losing ice its global warming. It’s the perfect scam where they can never be proved wrong, the data MUST always agree with the paradigm, it if doesn’t it’s ignored or "adjusted”.

Greenland has had record levels of ice accumulation in the last 18 months, but that’s another sure indicator of global warming. Look at these two graphs from the DMI. On the top graph you can see the current ice accumulation as the blue line and nearly always above average. In the bottom graph, the grey line at the top was last year’s ice accumulation, a record. But this is ignored because its off message.

The US National Snow & Ice Centre (NSIDC) operates two Arctic ice databases.

1. Sea Ice Index (SII) which has been operating since Nov 1978. It measures the amount of ice by dividing the Arctic up into 625 square kilometer cells(25 x 25) and checking whether each cell has more than 15% ice. If it has, then it is counted in the overall matrix. The major problem with this methodology is that wind or waves can push ice into a shoreline and compact it so that although the amunt of ice may not have changes, the amount of cells containing 15% or more is decreased significantly. Following is the current Arctic ice map as it approaches maxumim in a few weeks. The red line is the 1981/2010 average so you can see that the reduction over the last 40 years is confined to a small area north east of Greenland and the opening to the Pacific at the top of the graph. It should be noted that Arctic ice actually grew significantly from the mid 1950’s until the late 1970’s so if the record went back to the 1940’s the ice loss would have been significantly smaller.


2. Multi-sensor Analysed Sea Ice Extent (MASIE)
Commenced in 2006 and has 16 square kilometer cells (4 x 4) and is far more accurate than SII. But it’s data is never used by NSIDC in reports because it contains an inconvenient truth, Arctic ice hasn’t changed significantly since 2006. You will not find a graphical representation of MASIE on the NSIDC website, you must download all the data and graph it yourself. I have just downloaded it and it clearly shows that for the last 12 years, Arctic ice has remained pretty much the same. But it’s off message so it’s never used to "prove” global warming.

Arctic ice volume is a far better metric of how Arctic ice is faring but once again, it is off message so it’s never referred to. This graph is from the Polar Science Centre http://psc.apl.uw.edu/research/projects/arctic-sea-ice-volume-anomaly/ and if you ignore the straight line "death dive” you can see that volume bottomed in 2010 and has increased a bit since then. Once again, starting from 1979 is when Arctic ice was at a max last reached in 1910

Following is Northern Hemisphere Snow Extent, as you can see it has grown since 1967!

Here are a few predictions from global warming high priests about Arctic ice.

Nasa climate scientist, Jay Zwally, 2007: "At this rate, the Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free by 2012.”

Professor Peter Wadhams Cambridge university 2012: ”Arctic sea ice will disappear within four years?

Wadhams in 2013: "Arctic Sea ice would disappear within 2 years”

Al Gore, 2009: "there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years”

Peter Wadhams 2016: "Next year or the year after that, I think it will be free of ice in summer . . . You will be able to cross over the North Pole by ship”.

And lastly, read the following article extract from the Washington Post……

The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consul Ifft, at Bergen, Norway.

Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers, he declared, all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met with as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm.

Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.

You see Arctic Ice was at a maximum in 1910 and rapidly shrunk until about 1950 then expanded considerably until the late 1970’s then shrunk again. Many scientists believe Arctic ice extent operates on a 70 year cycle but of course that is off message and never reported.

One last quote….

At the first Earth Day celebration, in 1969, environmentalist Nigel Calder warned, "The threat of a new ice age must now stand alongside nuclear war as a likely source of wholesale death and misery for mankind,'”

LOL.

So next time someone says the Arctic is melting away, quote some of the above!
