"Sustainability" is Unsustainable

In nearly every community of the nation the policy called Sustainable is the catch-all term for local planning programs, from water and energy controls to building codes and traffic planning. The term "sustainable†was first used in the 1987 report called "Our Common Future,’ issued by the United Nations Commission on Environment and Development (UNCED). The term appeared in full force in 1992 in a United Nations initiative called Agenda 21. According to proponents, the official definition of Sustainable Development is "Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.†In 1993, the UN further described its purpose, saying, "Effective execution of Agenda 21 will require a profound reorientation of all human society, unlike anything the world has ever experienced.†The most often used phrase to describe Sustainable policy is that it’s a "comprehensive blueprint for the reorganization of human society.â€
These are strong pronouncements concerning our future. How could such ideas be imposed? Who could coordinate such an effort to reorganize our entire society? There are many private non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and government agencies involved in creating and implementing the national sustainable policy program on the state and local levels. But there is one that seems to stand in the center of them all.
The American Planning Association (APA) is the premier planning group operating across the nation. It has a long history in the development process, thus is trusted by elected officials to be a responsible force as they spread the gospel of "common sense†community planning to assure healthy, happy neighborhoods from which all may benefit. Above all, the APA strenuously denies any connection to the United Nations or any silly conspiracy theories like the so-called Agenda 21! Everything the APA promotes, they assure us, is based on local input for local solutions to local development planning. Here is a solid group you can trust!

Please understand, sustainability is simply code for limiting economic growth which means limiting capitalism. It really is as simple as that. Barack Obama tried to do that very thing, taking steps to restrict actual growth in order to make a 'sustainable" economy. People had few jobs or inferior jobs, which was fine with The One because that is the whole point of this concept. Sustainable means you aren't using resources, so you cannot have a growing economy. The result is a static economy that requires redistribution of wealth, which requires ultimately a socialist state. It's nothing but a dirty back door to Marx.
Sadly, it has taken root throughout the United States, even at the local levels. People all believe in it as some sort of religious dogma. It's especially true of the Millenials, who are absolutely convinced the Earth is running out of resources (the old Club of Rome and Limits to Growth fallacy from the Jimmy Carter era). Granted, a third of Millenials aren't convinced the Earth is round...
Human beings are not meant to be static. We are naturally growth oriented, and when we stop growing we start dying. We are limited to just a fraction of the land area of the Earth in terms of resources - we haven't gone under the sea or into the Antarctic orwhatnot, and we haven't even begun to touch the resources of the solar system. There is one average asteroid, for instance, that has enough metal to destroy the world economy were we to mine it, and there are countless other asteroids, as well as two planets that would be minable, plus our moon, and the moons of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, plus the Kuyper belt. We've got humongous amounts of resources within reach, but we are playing this ridiculous game where we pretend we have to shepherd everything for future generations. We are only doing this to empower governemnts to regulate and restrict us. It really is that simple.
