I thought to write my thoughts on the State of the Bunion but decided it wasn't worth my time. It was a huge pack of lies and false promises and Biden self-aggrandizing and buck passing. Exactly what we knew it would be.

Biden did what he needed to do (with the help of powerful pharmaceuticals, no doubt) by simply not falling down or going into lalaland.

I would add I think the impromptu "off script" moments were carefully planned but I can't prove it. I suspect Biden rehearsed them carefully.

At any rate I gave up counting the lies after about three minutes.

I'm more concerned with the Republican response. They brought that teenie-bopper babe to do it, a girl from Alabama and somehow sitting U.S. Senator.

While at times she did show an apocalyptic tone (and anyone who is paying attention must sense the apocalyptic atmosphere as Biden completes Obama's "work of remaking America") and she showed herself righteously indignant, she, well, sucked.

She moved too slowly and used too few facts. She talked down to the audience; I felt like a kindergartener with a young new teacher who is trying to patiently explain why I shouldn't pick my nose. To me she came across as condescending.


She also seemed just moments away from tears. I swear I thought of her as a female John Boehner. Wonder if she was smoking pot before she spoke like Boehner would do?

And I tire of this personal narrative and the down-home touch that the GOP thinks will work for them. If I were a Millenial I would be rather revolted by her and her country-crafty down home way "bless her heart" and the rest.

I mean I get it; they wanted to contrast the geriatric Biden with a young, fresh Republican. But this chick? Bless her heart!

She did stick to some of the key issues, I'll grant that. But she didn't offer any concrete plans, nor did she go after places where Biden was weak - like his corruption. She spoke of immigration but failed to mention the fact Biden has admitted to flying nearly half a million illegal aliens into the country, bipassing the entry checkponts, an illegal act. She failed to mention Biden sued Texas to stop them from building a razor-wire fence and enforcing immigration laws themselves. She failed to mention the titanic amount of money Biden spent and how that caused the inflation that is draining American wallets and bank accounts. She failed to mention Biden's collusion with big tech to censor opposition.

I know; there is limited time. But she took her time and talked about her family and all the other homesy things that she seems to think resonate with young urban hipsters but really only with rural Alabama seniors.

And then she spoke of how the GOP was going to protect In Vitro Fertilization! That is not a big national issue - abortion is, but not IVF. And it is a loser; the national Republican party is not on board with the agenda this dimwitted lady just set. The fact is this was a topic to stay off; it only helps Biden and the Democrats. Yet she didn't have the good sense to spend her limited time on more productive things, like those I just mentioned.

So in the end I think this Britt chick did little to help the Republicans and even less to help herself (she was clearly auditioning for a leadership position.)


There are plenty of Republicans who would have done a better job. Who picked this teenie-bopper babe? Probably Rona McDaniel. Britt served on the Republican Party Advisory Council to advise McDaniel on how to win elections (something McDaniel has had absolutely zero ability to do). I suspect McDaniel and Mitc McConnell chose her to give the rebuttal precisely because she was ineffectual and thus not "scary". She joined McConnell's leadership team last year.

McConnell promoted Britt over Conservative Mo Brooks in the last Senate race and she won. She is a young, attractive version of Luther Strange.

So she is just another RINo offering the same weak-kneed pablum we are always treated to by the Party.

And indignation aside she just didn't make that great a case. I cannot believe we couldn't do better. Mo Brooks would have.

This is why the Republicans lose.
