A Russian general was murdered by a car bomb on the eve of historic meetings between Putin and Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff, stimulating speculations the Ukrainians or Europeans may have been involved to prevent a peace deal from being reached.
Gen Yaroslav Moskalik was killed when a shrapnel-filled IED exploded under his Volkswagon Golf in the town of Balashikha on Friday, just outside of Moscow. Moskalik was the deputy head of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
Unless Putin himself did the deed (not unheard-of from the old KGB thug) somebody was trying to derail these talks, in all likelihood.
My money is on Zelensky. He has zero interest in ending this conflict without taking all the occupied territory back and then some, perhaps.
At any rate this may well derail talks, and more importantly lead to a renewed offensive by Russian forces and against civilians, I might add.
Which, it occurs to me, would suit Zeolensky fine; he needs an atrocity to keep America on their side and maybe bring Europeans and other outside forces into actual conflict.
At any rate this is a major provocation that could derail all efforts at a diplomatic settlement. And without aid the Ukrainians will lose in the end, so there is only one options - foreign forces actually fighting in the war. That is no doubt what Zelensky is thinking anyway.
