Russia Begins Withdrawing Forces from Kiev

Steven Schueler

Russia begins withdrawing forces and reducing bombardments around Kyiv after vowing to 'radically reduce' military activity during 'meaningful' peace talks with Ukraine attended by Roman Abramovich

Gonna move some to Mariupol and Kherson I believe, Russia wants control of ALL the ports more than Kiev. Wagner group supposedly moving in to help in Donbas.

Tim adds:

I predicted Putin would start talking after rampaging, and that he would eventually cut a deal that made it look like he won, at least in Russia. And Biden will claim a win.

I think this is the first stage of this war winding down.

The talks will not doubt drag on for some time. Putin wants the port cities and wants a corridore through Ukraine for his oil and gas pipelines to Europe. He can always take Ukraine by slow strangulation. This wasn't a war of conquest so much as a war of economics.

As usual the media has it completely backwards.

1 No matter what you want to make of Putin: megalomaniac or whatever, apparently the man is a bit of a realist and recognized that he was getting his ass kicked big-time in Ukraine. Maybe he learned some lessons from his little adventure in Afghanistan?

2  Or he could be regrouping having learned that large forces with too many moving parts on too few usable roads is not the best strategy for victory this day and age.He should have paid attention as to what happened to the Russian 44th Rifle Battalion.

3 Either way Putin is no dummy; he learns quickly and doesn't seem to make the same mistake twice.

He may have bitten off more than he could chew, but a swallow or two and he's ready for another bite.

As I stated, I think Putin will cut a deal and make peace - for now. But he'll keep squeezing and eventually squeeze hard enough. Ultimately this won't be over.
