RIP Roberta Flack

The singer, known for such hits as "Killing Me Softly With His Song" and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face." passed away on Monday at age 88.

Flack was a huge star in the '70's and her music always reminds me of my youth.

While no cause of death has been given the singer suffered from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

I suspect our Northern Tier editor Dana Mathewson has a thought or two on the subject.

She will be missed.

1 He certainly does -- or I certainly do. Roberta Flack was one of my darlings. There was such a sweetness and quietness about her singing that was captivating. I had at least one of her albums, which I had to give up, along with most of my others, when we moved four years ago. As I write this, a number of her songs are starting to come back to me, and one that wasn't quiet was the punch "When You Smile." I'll bet that track is available on YouTube...

2 You capture her essence there perfectly Dana; sweetness and a soulful quietness. She defined a specific style that was absent in many ways during the '70's and owned it.
