Desperate State Of The Cryosphere
Over the last nine days, the surface of the Greenland ice sheet has gained 42 billion tons of new ice and snow. The increase in mass since September 1, 2024 is 530 billion tons, which 43 billion tons above the 1981-2010 average.
Surface Conditions: Polar Portal
Arctic sea ice is about the same as it was when George Bush Jr. was president.

There is more sea ice around Antarctica now than there was when Jimmy Carter was president.

Experts say Antarctic sea ice is both decreasing and increasing, both due to global warming.
"While Arctic ice is melting at a record pace, a team of NASA-led researchers say they can explain why Antarctic sea ice has been edging in the opposite direction. That paradox has puzzled scientists for years and given climate-change deniers fodder to dispute global warming.”
