President Donald Trump signed an executive order Friday to rename the Department of Defense the "Department of War,” restoring its historic title to highlight the Pentagon’s primary mission of waging and winning wars. During an appearance on "The Ingraham Angle,” Hawley said it is a necessary step to reverse the Biden administration’s ideological drift and refocus the military on its core mission: winning wars.
"Absolutely, of course,” Hawley said when asked if he supported the idea. "I see this as about getting back to mission, Laura. Which is about recruiting war fighters to fight the wars that protect America. What Biden did for the last four years by turning the military into a giant DEI seminar has got to end.”
Hawley further explained how former President Joe Biden turned the Pentagon into a vehicle for progressive social experiments rather than a force designed to defend the United States.
That's right; we need to restore the warrior ethic and eliminate the prancing poneys that have come to dominate the military under Obama and Biden.

Good idea. Why in heck did they ever rename it to the Department of Defense in the first place? The wimps who will complain about the "new" name are probably unaware of its old name, and should be obliged (forced) to defend their complaints on the basis of its long-standing old name.

It was an odd decision. I had to look it up; in 1947 Congress passed the National Security Act and the renaming was done because they thought Department of War was too tied to the Army alone and our national security was based much more on air power and naval power and so they wanted an "inclusive" name for the Department. We hardly won a war since the name change. Grenada and Gulf War II are the only ones that come to mind and GWII was not an unqualified victory after the initial conquest of teh country.

I don't think we've won a war since they changed the name. Didn't that ever occur to the solons in DC?

Pretty much not. Defense is different than war and it makes our thinking different. War naturally makes us think of driving, of attacking, of an aggressive military posture. Defense makes us think of police actions.
Yeah; I don't know if they ever thought of that or not but Trump has and now he's acting. This is what we have needed for a long, long time.

The fact that "they thought Department of War was too tied to the Army alone" in 1947 is clear evidence that this national stupidity and insanity started far earlier than is commonly thought. They actually thought that "War" was not inclusive of the Air Force and Navy?
