Hyper-woke Portland becomes latest city to REFUND its police department after seeing record-breaking
This great social experiment by and for the woke needs to run to the end!

The English language continues to go downhill. "Portland is going to refund its police department.â€
To refund money means to give back money which was given to you, but Portland didn’t receive any money from the police. That would mean they passed a hat and made individual cops put money out of their pockets.
What they did is reduce they amount of money they had planned to give to the police. That’s called "defunding,†which is only partly correct, because technically defunding would mean withholding all funding, not just part of it.
Defund: v. prevent from continuing to receive funds
So in today’s illiterate media, the opposite of "defund†is "refund,†which actually means something else entirely.
Refund: v. a repayment of a sum of money
Our media is not only dishonest, it is illiterate.

Not only the media are illiterate; an increasing percentage of citizens have a poor grasp of English. That's why it's so easy to gull them.

The proper term would be de-defund, I suppose. or better yet re-fund with the dash.
