Quentin Tarantino, the blue light Shaft-wannabee who gave us such cultural masterpieces as Kill Bill and the perverted Pulp Fiction, is slated to make the next Star Trek film.
The movie will receive an R rating, the first ever for the franchise.
This is not just an example of cultural rot, but of the way a little leaven will infest an entire loaf. Our culture has become sex and violence drenched, and nothing may be allowed to remain outside of it, lest people realize there is another way.
I remember when Star Wars first came out; it was not that it was such a brilliant movie (although the special effects were groundbreaking) but what struck everyone at the time was that it was a clean mov70'd ie, one that, while featuring some violence, was not graphic and had no sex and it celebrated older virtues. Back in the '70's we were told America had "grown up" and we were too "sophisticated" for this type of thing. for this, yet Star Wars went on to become one of America's great institutions, far transcending mere "movie" status. That was ultimately because it was a throwback, a film dedicated to our older virtues.
But libertinism has continued to move inexoribly forward, and the libertines cannot afford to allow anything to remain unsullied lest it show up the claims that we are moving forward into the sexually liberated future. Liberals advance by pushing the idea of "inevitablility", that we are somehow "moving forward" along the "tide of history" and when something contradicts their assertions they find it most inconvenient. So they have to corrupt everything pure and decent, lest we see the truth and know their lies for what they are.
And so now the smut peddlers will infect Star Trek. Another American institution bites the dust.
