The bottom line is that since Ukraine is not America’s or NATO’s battle, a question should be asked: Do we really want to risk turning Putin into a man with nothing to lose, a man who maybe, just perhaps, could descend into a state where all he wants is to see the world burn?

Selwyn has it nailed here. One of the world's greatest military geniuses, Chinese General Sun Tzu, advised "Always provide a golden bridge for your enemy to escape on." Doesn't seem like our current geniuses understand that...

I didn't remember that quote but it is unquestionably Sun Tzu. He understood it. You have to give the enemy a way out or he will fight to the death.
Better to let him go in a pre-planned way and be waiting.
