Now for a public service announcement.

Popular Diabetes and Weight Loss Drug Doubles Risk of Eye Disease That Causes Blindness, Study Warns

The drug is Mounjaro, which I took for a short time. I'm thankful my pocketbook was allergic to it; I already have retinopathy, the blindness-causing eye disease the study warns about.

If you are on this drug I would suggest you speak with your doctor about switching.

Granted just a little over one percent of people suffered this, but it is twice the level of people NOT on it. No point in risking your vision.

I assure you that you won't enjoy retinopathy; you have to get shots in your eyeball or eyeballs all the time to try to stop your retina from detaching, and you may wind up getting surgeries.

1 Glad I'm not on ANY diabetes drugs!

2 You are indeed fortunattte Dana.

Type II diabetes runs in families yet nobody in MY immediate family has it butt me (and I was diagnosed in my early twenties, although it was suspected as far back as my childhood.) But my grandfathers both had it. Sadly I seem to have drawn the short straw on that one. I have a number of complications from diabetes and they aren't fun.

3 I was diagnosed with Type II somewhere around thirty years ago, undoubtedly due to an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. I've kept sugar pretty much out of my diet (my wife cooperates by cooking healthy for both of us); I suppose if I gave up alcohol it would help, though my blood readings don't seem to track with my drinking.

I'm supposed to go get a blood test next week; don't know what that will show. I'm always skeptical when someone asks my A1C because that's gotta wander every day. If this new GP I'm test-driving says anything about putting me on Metformin I'll show him I still know some colorful language, even though I have sworn that off years ago.
