Progressivism and the Fermi Paradox
Timothy Birdnow
If alien life is out there, where are they? That was the famous question Enrico Fermi asked about speculations of alien life. His argument was that we should find solid evidence of their existence; they would come in all levels of development and we should find at least some of them. Radio transmissions, or artifacts left here. But we find none. Why is that?
Richard Cronin, discussing the Drake Equations which purport to give a statistical proof of the existence of alien life, had this to say:
I tend to agree.
Maybe they have their own version of Progressivism that strangles them. Certainly would explain the Fermi Paradox! Any sufficiently advanced civilization may strangle on it's own success by having the power to make a hammock out of a social safety net!
It may be that cultural degeneration isn't a strictly human thing, but a thing common to all intelligent life. The higher a civilization rises the easier they make their lives - and the less productive and adventurous they become.
One wonders if the Universe isn't littered with dead civilizations, killed off by their own success.
Maybe every alien race has had their own Joe Biden to contend with?
It may be there ARE aliens out there - they just all slide back to barbarism before truly breaking away from their home worlds. Or they wipe themselves out completely through the wars started by busy-body eight legged Progressives.
It does appear that may happen to us. It HAS happened to us in the past - many times. Civilizations have fallen just as they were becoming something truly remarkable. It happend during the Bronze Age. It happened to Greece. It happened to China. It happened to Rome.
Now it appears to be our turn, only we have the tools to wipe ourselves out completely.
We're making the very same mistakes all of our predecessors made. Maybe it's a series of mistakes all intelligent life makes?

Not in the extraterrestrial sense perhaps Dana, but clearly they are in the traditional; not Americans at all!
