Practical Knowledge

This from Chester McAteer:

It is easy to gain technical knowledge, we can read a book to gain such knowledge, but practical knowledge is a completely different matter. Practical knowledge is based upon the ability to recognize and receive knowledge that is imparted over time and through experience, it is the basis of all rational thought. It has, from all evidence, also apparently become a very rare trait in our modern society, shunned due the effort involved in gaining such knowledge, it has become easier for many to simply repeat what is heard rather than critically think about a given subject and relay the ideas distilled on said subject.

Tim adds:

Practical knowledge requires the wise to learn through difficult and often painful ways. Now we glorify ivory tower academicians who have never actually suffered the consequences of their theories.

1 I've probably quoted Yogi Berra, the Great American Philosopher, a number of times in these pages, because I'm a great admirer of him, but one thing he said that is easier to understand than some of his other pronouncements (sometimes you have to dig deeply to understand what he's saying), that applies here, is: "In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is." To which I'll say that, apropos of what you've observed above, it's too easy to just go along with the theory and ignore the practice part of it.

Put another way, theorize all you want to, but if your theory doesn't work in the real world, it's worthless and may even be harmful. Noteworthy liberals such as Paul Krugman and AOC would do well to learn this.

2 It is indeed true that gaining technical knowledge is easier than practical knowledge. As a writer at top rated resume service in USA I have seen that people find it hard to take practical knowledge rather than technical knowledge. But, I think both go hand in hand as unless we study the theory we can't apply it practically to anything, and unless we do the practical we can't really understand the theory.

3 Amen to that Dana. If your theory does not comport with reality it's the theory that's wrong. Liberals try to adjust reality to fit.

4 I would agree Emma Sparks!  Thanks for stopping by!

Oh, come on, Timothy. Liberals would not be aware of reality if it stepped up and hit them in the face with a dead flounder.

7 My friend literally nudged me to find the best car service in Tallaght, so that I could work and repair my crappy ride. I have to be frank with you, my car was in such a bad condition, smoke was coming out of the exhaust, I only got to know this when the mechanic slammed the accelerator so hard to rev up, I saw black smoke almost ate a guy on the back. Luckily all he did was cough his lungs out. What a drag man, what a drag it was indeed.

8 I was fed up with searching for a garage that would allow me to me only change my kind of dried-up oil. But almost every garage I went to started pushing me to change other parts or perform a general check-up. But I didn’t want any of that. I only wanted my oil change Dublin to be done. These guys were kind enough to do it, and they got a regular customer in return.
