Pope Leo "Too Much Consoooomin' Goin' On!"

Anyone remember Democrat Richard "Fritz" Hollings? "Too much consooooomin goin' on!"
Jesus condemned his Apostles for complaining when Mary Magdalen anointed Jesus with expensive oils. Their complaint was it was a waste of money, that the money should go to the poor. Jesus said "the poor you shall always have with you" but He wasn't going to be around that long.
Jesus was telling us it's o.k. to buy stuff and give ourselves the occasional treat as long as we remember our obligations to others.
Jesus did not have the Marxist mentality. He did not think life should be glum and austere.
The Pope was correct, however, to caution people about AI and suggest we use it sparingly, and not as replacement for prayer and for God. Right he is on THAT score!
But just the fact he linked that - and it IS a very disturbing development (read the Book of Revelation 13:15 "The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.". Sounds like an AI system to me.) But how on God's green Earth does AI relate to "consumerism"? It relates to hubris, to the First Commandment, to a number of things, but consumerism isn't one of them and in fact consumerism is not mentioned anywhere in the Bible - except where the money changers were cheating pilgrims to the Temple and Jesus took a bullwhip to them.
Online sure. A lot of people buy stuff online. And a lot of people buy more than they really need.
Once again Pope Leo shows his intellect is a pint short of a quart.
He is right; we need to pray more. The only way the Catholic Church will get people to do that is to stop offering a content-free religion with DEI but get back to basics and teach about Heaven and Hell again. People need to fear the Lord, and to fear eternal damnation. Now the Church refuses to discuss either and people assume they are going to Heaven no matter how they live or what they do. So many are going to be horrified when they die. And so many of the shepherds from the Church are going to be right there with them because they put friendship with the world above obedience to God.

Maybe, if we had to have an American Pope, we should have gotten one from a poorer area than Chicago? And certainly not from a Blue state and city? That might have made a difference.

I agree but that was the whole point. This guy was chosen in no small part because he was from Chicago and a guy who would act as a counter-weight to Trump and the MAGA movement. It was always said there would never be an American Pope because it would be putting too much power in the hands of Americans,, that the Papacy needed to be a couter-weight to secular power. But now they chose an American. No coincidence.
The cardinals (most of whom were chosen by Pope Francis) wanted someone who could offer a moral rebuttal to Trump and the MAGA movement. They figured we wouldn't listen to anyone but another American because, in their liberal view, we are all racist, culturally bigoted hillbillies and would only accept "correction" from an American.
I strongly suspect Pope Francis chose this guy personally.
At any rate his opening moves have been to go after national borders and to go after free markets. He doesn't seem much concerned with the rising of dragons - like Democratic Socialism. Where is he on that? Why isn't he talking about sin? Where is he on transgenderism or gay marriage or any of the other moral sins that will lead souls to perdition?
The Church's job is to save souls. All the social issues - the corporal works of mercy - are secondary to that mission. But they have become the only mission of the Progressive Catholic Church.
The Pope will have to answer for that.
