Plastic Paradise

Steve Roten

The ignorance of people who buy the nonsense peddled by leftist totalitarians never ceases to amaze me.

There's a problem with excess plastics. It's everywhere. There is so much plastic waste in the oceans that plastic is found in many of the digestive tracts and bodies of sea creatures. It's filling up our landfills. It's in every trash can and on every road in America. And like most waste and pollutants the accumulation of it is worse in many other places around the world than it is here, but of course they hate America and convince you that it's worse here.

EVERYTING we buy is sealed up so tight in plastic we have a hard time getting it out and putting it to use without cutting our hands! Every beverage we buy is in a plastic container, most of which are single serving sized. Home Depot and Lowe's took the hardware industry from a place where you would go for small amounts of nails and screws put them in a paper sack and pay for them individually or by the pound or you would buy an entire box full for larger projects. Now every screw is blister packed and if it isn't you're supposed to pull a little plastic bag out of the bin and package it yourself - in throw away plastic.

We used to put our veggies right into a paper bag. It would breathe and keep the vegetables fresh for a much longer time than sealed up in plastic bags but we've all been led to believe that it's much cleaner and better to put our veggies in plastic bags.

We went from Tupperware reusable plastic storage containers for leftovers in every household to single use throw away plastic containers and Ziplock bags.

We've been trained by industry that everything has to be sealed up in throw away plastic or it's just not clean and sanitary. Never mind what the off-gassing of the chemicals in the plastics themselves do to the human body!

So with all this, the leftist answer to the plastics problem is to eliminate the one piece of plastic that actually holds multiple uses in most households... the disposable plastic shopping bag.

Now we have to BUY heavier gauge single use plastic garbage bags for our bathroom, bedroom and other small trash cans! Brilliant. We have to search around the house for something to use for storage bags for temporary storage of items like a handful items here or there we need to keep separated from other things or something to send with the kids to school, lunch bags, or a small bag to scrape plates into after dinner. Whatever.

And this is just ONE of the ignorant things that leftists have convinced us will solve one of the crises created by greed.

We could talk about EVs, solar, wind, paying professionals to cull wild game, government feeding of non-native feral animals that are destroying western grazing lands, the import of non-native species that lefty eggheads have convinced us were just the right things to bring to America throughout the years (almost every one of which has resulted in desruction of native habitat as become recognized as invasive species) and so on.

I won't even get into economics except to say that we're all living the results of leftist economic policies RIGHT NOW. Yet still you people keep voting them into office as you pay three times what you did to live just a couple of years ago? 69% of Americans are clamoring for more relief from inflation which will do nothing but create more inflation! Then to add insult to injury you allow them to convince you that we have an 8% inflation rate and it's going down! Really?

Just keep listening to the settled science crew instead of to your own head about what makes common sense for things. Just keep on failing to educate yourself about alternative power, water, resource use, arable land and so on, while they concoct more and more ways to charge you taxes on the use of what their elite handlers have set you up to waste, only so they can sell more of it.

Tim adds:

When I was a kid we used to have real glass returnable bottles. You put a deposit down and got it back when you returned them. The soda tasted better out of those, and there was not the problem of plastics.

Beer too; the real glass bottles were great! You get beer in "bottles" now but they are mostly made of plastic, hardened to fake a resemblance to glass.

Yes, they occasionally chipped, and if you worked at a store (as did I) you would have to be careful about cutting your hand on broken bottles, but by and large they were far superior to the plastic ones.

The only good thing about plastic bottles is they are less likely to break. There were few things better than rolling out the glass bottles from a soda machine, and drinking it ice cold (they always seemed colder) on a hot day!

Also, you may remember the paper cans used for motor oil. Those were great and you could burn them. The left no doubt demanded these all be removed then complain about the results.
