The supposedly conservative Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by Pennsylvania Republicans to reinstate a congressional district map they drew up that was struck down by the state's supreme court.
According to Reuters:
"A new state electoral map, devised by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court after it invalidated the Republican-drawn districts in January, is seen as giving Democrats a better shot at gaining seats in the U.S. House of Representatives in the Nov. 6 congressional elections in which President Donald Trump’s fellow Republicans are seeking to retain control of Congress.
The case involves a practice called partisan gerrymandering in which electoral maps are drafted in a manner that helps one party tighten its grip on power by undermining the clout of voters that tend to favor the other party. The high court in June failed to determine whether partisan gerrymandering violates the U.S. Constitution after hearing high-profile cases from Wisconsin and Maryland."
End excerpt.
So, what is the point of winning elections at the state level if courts will simply nullify the results? Part of the reason we have a federated system - where state governments matter in equal measure to the central government - is to guarantee this sort of thing. Redistricting is a part of the sytem of checks and balances implemented by the Founding Fathers. They WANTED to make it possible for the winners of elections to control the electoral maps. This gives the state legislatures power over the Federal governemtn. It is another example of judicial activism that they simply overturn the will of the People and impose their own agenda.
When the Left loses it cheats. This is just another way of placing their meaty thumbs on the scales.
