1 I've seen this before. If this professor has what it takes to be a professor, he (or she) needs to tell the powers-that-be to take a long walk off a short pier (or words to that effect) -- after drafting his resignation letter, of course, with the full realization that it may take awhile to get another job. But for cryin' out loud, this is a hill worth dying on, I would say. If this is what "higher education" is coming to, maybe it is time to seek other ways for people to earn a living. Suffice to say that if enough professors quit, this foolishness will stop.

2 Dana,he wouldn't get another job; they would blackball him. Higher education works like the Mfia these days. So the guy would have to be prepared to take a job in another line of work.

My brother Brian has been enduring this for decades now. Even then he struggles because nobody will hire him except the truly desperate schools that can't find anyone.

3 There ARE other jobs; and if enough people take them, colleges will starve. Wouldn't that be wonderful?

4 Well,  outside of academia Dana. But if you spent years getting a doctorate you don't want to wind up working at a job outside of your field, especially as you are considered overqualified and probably will struggle to get a decent job.

I agree; if everyone would boycott the universities this would change. But that means parents need to stop sending their kids to those schools as well. The schools will find teachers - that is a given. They may not be qualified but the universitiesdon't care about that; many aren't qualified now.

To stop this the customers have to stop supporting these institutions. And the customers are the students.
