Pandemics, Civil Order, and Gun Control

Dana Mathewson

Here's something the gun control freaks should think about, assuming they ever take time to think.

About 10 years ago, when Europe was in the midst of fiscal crisis, advocates for welfare spending rioted in some nations.

Given the continent’s grim long-run outlook, that got me thinking about the potential for a future breakdown of civil order and I wrote that it was tragic that most people in Europe didn’t have the right to own guns for self-protection.

Food for thought!

1 Food for thought indeed Dana.  Guns in the hands of the civilians promotes civil order.  Disorder comes when the average person is disarmed.  It is crystal clear.

2 And the gun control freaks know it very well. Civil disorder would play into their hands. Imagine having to declare martial law!

3 I'm afraid they may do just that in the coming weeks. We've been out of toilet paper on the grocery shelves here for about that long. I had plenty on hand; I always keep a hefty supply because it doesn't spoil and we tend to use a lot of it. But when that's gone I don't know what we'll do. There are few tissues available either.  I guess I'll have to do the old Sears Robuck thing. Or corn cobs.

Point is that alone could lead to rioting and looting. I rather suspect the presence of guns here is all that stops some people from robbing neighbors of toilet paper.

It's only going to get worse.

4 It's been suggested to me to try to get to the stores before they open so you can get in first thing, after the shelves have been restocked. Of course, that won't help if the stores can't get the stuff in the first place. . .

Stores like Staples and Office Depot have "commercial grade" toilet paper and "Kleenex" because they sell to offices. I got some at Staples yesterday.
