The two top managers of the Houston Astros were fired for their role in sign stealing and other cheating
Also, the manager of the Boston Red Sox was the brain behind the Houston scheme when he was with the Astros.
Manager Alex Cora was sacked for his role in the Astros swindle fest.
I find it interesting he went to Boston, the city always ready to cheat. The New England Patriots have been stealing football games for years, and the Boston Red Sox have a venerable history of dubious play.
I'm glad they were caught, but cheating is something often winked at by the major leagues. It shouldn't be; anyone caught should be expelled from all participation in the sport - including telecaster - and their teams should be punished to such an extent that no front office will dare take the chance.
It reminds me of vote fraud, which is ubiquitous in this country and often laughed at "vote early, vote often" was an old Democratic expression. Vote fraud should be punished by at least twenty years and the party that benefits should be penalized in some fashion. Right now we have people getting a month in jail suspended and they wind up getting a better job at the DNC.
In both instances this strikes at the heart of the issue. Of course, in vote fraud it is a conscious effort to disenfranchise people, to streal their votes. But then too, in sports it upsets betting and is just a nasty thing, not in line with the values of the games. It promotes a lack of confidence in the veracity of the sport.
In the end, such cheating bespeaks of a moral problem in this country. Americans are increasingly willing to cheat or lie to get what they want. A nation is only as good as the word of it's citizenry. If the citizens tolerate such cheating in small things (like sports) how much more will they tolerate in big things (like politics)? In fact, we have already seen how much; just look at the attempt to bring down President Trump with lies and innuendos.
Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach thereunto, the Bible tells us. America is seriously reporached these days...
