The American Accountability Foundation requested the records of that supplemental registry on October 17, 2025, under the Maryland Public Information Act. Cheverly acknowledged the request. Then it produced nothing. Eight months passed. Follow-up inquiries went unanswered. No documents arrived. Then the American Accountability Foundation asked the ACLJ to get involved, and we filed a lawsuit.
Last week, the town turned over the "Non-citizen" Voter Registry, containing the names and addresses of 98 individuals.
The ACLJ then conducted an extensive review of the names and addresses on this supplemental "Non-citizen" Voter Registry, cross-checking them against publicly available voter data. The results of our investigation show that at least 25% of the names (including matching addresses) voted in what are listed as federal and statewide elections between 2020 and 2024 (no local elections were held on the same day as federal elections those years). Additionally, at least eight of these voters appear to have also voted in federal elections BEFORE this supplemental list was created by ordinance – going back to 2016 presidential election. The ordinance expressly states that individuals on the county's state and federal rolls should not be on this supplemental list. Because the "non-citizen" supplemental voter registry is not supposed to include individuals registered to vote in federal elections, no one on this list, logically and legally speaking, should be able to vote in a federal election.
