This comment has nothing to do with the Union's feelings about Trump, but rather to its ideas about education per se. Here in the great state of Minnesota, at least, we find that among other things, students no longer are taught how to write in cursive. I give you two examples:
(1) My former pastor was visiting us Tuesday afternoon and mentioned that she'd sent a birthday card to her grandson (who was "educated" in the St. Paul school system). He called her upon receipt of the card and told her he was unable to read it because it was written in cursive. The kids in his school were never taught to read cursive
(2) Martha was texting with one of her church choir members, who is also Martha's informal nurse, and she happened to mention that her son, who just graduated from high school (one of the suburbs of Minneapolis) was never taught to read cursive either, and this fellow is at the top of his class.
I am led to wonder: does our illustrious Governator know how to read cursive, and does his wife, who is supposedly a teacher (of what, we are led to guess) know how?

Humans are tactile. (Watch the first part of 2001: a Space Odyssey) and writing by hand hels them organize their thoughts and clarify them.
My brother Brian, who is a History professor, never composes on the computer; he always does a hand-written draft first. He says he can't organize his thinking without the writing first.
I am of the opinion the teachers want to eliminate cursive to make the kids even more dependent on technology and less able to operate outside the system. And of course to hide their failure to teach children.

Considering the idea of the gummint wanting us dependent on technology and therefore weaning us off cursive, one should keep in mind the fact that gummint is ALSO doing its best (worst?) to take away our ability to communicate with one another. Right?
