The NFL is soon to have some competition.
According to SI:
"harlie Ebersol, the son of longtime NBC Sports executive Dick Ebersol and director of the 30 for 30 documentary about the original XFL his father created with WWE’s Vince McMahon, announced Tuesday that he plans to launch a football league next February. (ESPN’s Darren Rovell has all the details.)
The league is called the Alliance of American Football and will feature eight 50-man teams playing a 10-game schedule that begins on February 9, the Saturday after next year’s Super Bowl."
eND EXCERPT.
Good. The NFL has become politicized and high handed, ignoring the dissatisfaction of fans in favor of their politically radicalized players, and now they should pay the price. The fact is, the NFL has enjoyed a monopoly for many years and thus football fans had to tturn to college football or do without. Now we may have a competitor to challenge the NFL hegemony.
If they avoid the pitfalls of the XFL, that is, avoid turning it into a reality show circus, and if they manage to attract good talent in both coaching and players, they could thrive. Let us hope so.
