When the radical Islamist Al Shaabob plotted to murder a group of Christian construction workers building a hospital, a group of decent Muslims gave them warning, helping them to escape the slaughter.
From the Christian Post:
According to International Christian Concern, the Islamic extremist group Al-Shabaab had planned to storm a construction site for a new hospital in Kutulo, Kenya and kill any Christian workers they found there.
When some of the local Muslim population heard of the impending attack, they rushed to the area to tell all Christians to evacuate. They then waited for the gunmen to arrive and confronted them.
While the Muslims were unable to prevent the gunmen from opening fire on the construction site, more than 20 Christians were nevertheless able to flee the site and escape without injuries.
The situation in Islam is complex. Islam does call for the terrorizing of Christians and other "infidels", even though earlier parts of the Koran requires Moslems to not molest the "Peoples of the Book". See, in Islam there is something called abrogation, where later commands in the Koran supercede the earlier ones, and the latter portion of the Koran do indeed authorize the terrorizing of Christians, Jews, and Nazarenes (followers of John the Baptist.)
But there are a lot of people who hold allegiance to Islam but don't follow the strict edicts and who are decent people. There ARE moderate Muslims. The problem they have is that a.they can't interpret the Koran because it is considered to be the actual word of God, dictated to Muhammad, rather than the inspired Word as in Judaism and Christianity, so you have to obey the text literally. Without a controlling legal authority (as in Catholicism) there is nobody to set standards. So one Moslems interpretation is as good as another, and it has to be literal. A fellow Moslem cannot tell him he's wrong.
It's part of the problem with a religion without theology or doctrine.
Also, since you cannot leave Islam without being subject to the death penalty, there are many good people who are trapped in the system of Sharia. They don't hate their neighbors and friends, but they can't admit to agnosticism or change religions.
Islam cannot reform because of the way it works. Reform equals apostacy. There are Moslems who want to reform their religion, and who believe there are good things there, but they will never succeed in stopping the terrorism and hatred because it's right there in the Koran. But they can take action to help their neighbors, as these people did.
I say this without sarcasm in this instance:
"peace be upon them!"
